First time at Mammoth. Met my partner the on thursday when we checked in to zero our rifles. lol Ended up placing 5th. Couldn't be happier with our results. I was very concerned about the rucks because everyone constantly talks them up so much, and I know it put a lot of people out of the match, but it was honestly a non issue for me. My future advice to anyone is, incorporate 2-a-days in your training plus a long ruck once a week. The long ruck is to identify feet problems. If you can take care of your feet(#1 priority) and put in 2, 4 mile rucks a day. You can finish mammoth, no problem.Well, how’d it go for everyone? We ended up finishing 13th overall which I don’t particularly care about as I just wanted to finish.
I had levels of difficult I anticipated the match to be and it ended up being pretty high up there. Honest opinion, I was a little frustrated by some of the scoring. We shot a couple stages exactly to the letter of the brief, and then weren’t awarded the points because the RO ruled we did it “incorrectly.” Didn’t argue, goal was just to finish. Other times we did make legit mistakes by not doing it as the brief stated and I could appreciate that as I knew the stages would challenge maintaining mental acuity while getting ones ass kicked.
It was an interesting experience for sure. Probably gonna be one and done for me honestly. I was very satisfied with our physical prep and equipment prep. My goal was to check the box that I’d completed a Mammoth and feeling satisfied with the results.
Congrats to everyone who finished, it was a grind. Met some great folks while competing!
I was also concerned with the "f&ckery" of the stage plans, but they all ended up being very straight forward and simple. Only issue is similar to yours with an RO. We were moving along targets pretty fast and when my partner ended, i was ready on the next one. I called out that I was moving to the square target, got 2 impacts and the RO asked what target I was shooting at. I responded on the square and immediately he said on it, because he was clearly already on it. After the stage I asked him what happend and he said "you were talking to your partner, not us when you moved to the next target". So i was a little frustrated knowing that he heard me but because I didn't specifically say "RO square target, confirm?" he just ignored it and watched me hit it twice without giving me points. I can honestly say that is the only grievance I had and wouldn't of made a difference in placement at the end of the day.
I'd do it again.
