A man was shot in the testicles Sunday afternoon after a gun in his waistband accidentally discharged, police said.

The man was shopping at the Lowe's hardware store in Lynnwood around 12:30 p.m. when the gun went off, said Shannon Sessions with Lynnwood Police.

Medics were called and the man was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, but the extent of his injuries is not known.

No one else was injured, and the man appeared to be shopping alone, Sessions said.

Sessions said it was legal for the man to be carrying the gun and it's unlikely he'll face any charges.

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

again, negligence and stupidity called accidental.
Hope he gets cocktail onion replacements. His wife will complain of heartburn after sex, and Martini's will give him a...

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

Typical media gun reporting........notice how they never mention the type of firearm or how it was possible for it to "go off" without being touched.....

So they put out a story that "A gun just went off" giving the illusion to the non-gun owners out there, that firearms are dangerous all by themselves because they will simply "go off" and shoot people.....

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

After laughing for 5 minutes, I had to pass this one on.

What is the thing with the Darwin Awards? He just removed himself from the gene pool...

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

He is definitely a strong contender for this years award Vic. It's pleasing to see natural selection unhindered and cleaning up our gene pool.

Up to now, the man had said holsters were too bulky and there was no room in his pants. The problem seems to have been self-correcting.

Nope, just going off half-cocked, wherever it is he's off to. Seriously a possibility http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=20341

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

Well you can bet he lost that testicle.

I've been to that lowes! Yikes.

SOmeone will be sweeping the floor and find it some day, i'tll come rolling out from underneath the lumber rack.

I'm dying to know what kind of firearm, what he was doing etc.

Guessing it was either a 1911 without the safety on, or a glock...

I'm trying to figure how a Glock could discharge in your pants and I can only think of one, and eve it is a longshot... can we get a pic of the "item" that caused the requisite tissue expansion to actuate the safe action pistol? I think I might need one for the garage if it's that good.

ah yeah forgot about that...OK Good point

So that means it could ahve been a revolver, or another type auto without a grip safety....

There's your problem, shoulda had a 1911 or a grip safety!! LOL

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

I'm always a bit paranoid about things like this, that's why I like to have my carry guns HK DA/SA models with a manual safety and I carry chamber loaded but decocked and on safety. Some think that's a bit overly redundant, but I'm pretty sure it makes it harder to accidentally shoot yourself if your fingers happen to go to the trigger somehow.

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

I'm guessing he pulled a Plaxico Burress. While Mexican carrying he tried to catch the gun as it was slipping. I always carry condition one but I always use a holster.

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

If it was a modern pistol in good repair I guarantee that he was finger f***ing it somehow.....

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

The few times I've done it, I just couldn't bear the thought or action of waistband carry THERE.

Especially after reading that Texas coroner's book on gunshot wounds. Contact-distance or even near-contact means that expanding gases can make a "miss" as bad as a direct hit.

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

I've seen it personally several times-both as a LEO and a Paramedic. The story usually is,"I was minding my own bidnez and mafucker run up on me and pow-shot me!"

Further investigation revealed no hole in outer clothing, but powder burns INSIDE the waistband and of course the carnage. Those that have worked EMS in the past may have heard of M.A.S.T. trousers. "Military anti-shock trousers"-they are like an air slint for the lower extremities that is inflated via footpump to force the blood into the upper body.

When these are applied the victims clothing (all of it) is cut off. During one of these self inflicted shootings,my partner cut the "victims" underwear and jeans off.SO the MAST could be used. The weapon, a cheap striker fired 45ACP-Lorcin IIRC, had discharged removing his penis right at the root!!

the detached "organ" was discovered in his pantleg.!!

No implantation was attempted since it was macerated by that big bullet. Although morbidly amusing for those of us present-it still makes you cringe.

I've also seen accidental discharges into the waistband by "gansta's" failing to keep their finger off the trigger. Most wounds were in the lower abdomen-never got to see organ removal again.

I carry my Browning Hi-power cocked and locked- IN A HOLSTER!!!

If any of you guys have netflix, watch the episode of "30 days" where the anti gun chick stays with a guy and his son who are very well versed in firearms. He makes some great statements.

She acts like the gun literally will jump up off the table and shoot someone at will.

Actually, I carry there almost all the time when carrying my J-frame .38 off-duty in a relaxed, casual dress. Some call it the "smart carry".....I don't know how it gets that name.....

But anyway, I carry in that position with the firearm in a <span style="font-weight: bold">HOLSTER</span> clipped to the inside of pants line. It's extremely concealable and makes it almost impossible for the gun to "print" on accident...

Re: Man accidentally shoots self in testicles

P3AT appendix carry quite often here, but that's in a High Noon Mr Softy.
I have one for my 3" 1911 too, but I'm not crazy about the safety not having holster coverage........
