    Went to the range this morning to ptactice for action pistol next weekend .
    Low and behold about twenty out of a hundred reloaded 9mm would not fire . Had about fifty factory rounds in my bag and bang no problem . So lucky me is sitting on about 1000 bad primers . So off to Wally World for some ammo . Go in and while perusing the ammo case this guy strikes up a conversation . " You buyin ammo . " My guns to expensive to shoot ." " The throw me out of the range cause my Mauser pucnches thru the concrete berm ." I mean every other time I go in for ammo some tard homes in on me like a fuckin AIM9 . Wether it's the guy who build his own full autos or the window licker with the tank bustin Moisin . It also seems like these tards just linger in sporting goods looking for a target . Furthers the argument for an exticntion level event . Or adult abortion at the least . We need some human QC or something .

    I'm a pretty social guy in public, but one of my peeves is when I'm casually having a convo with my wife or whoever else I'm with and then some random asshole hears the convo and feels the need to join in as if they're part of the group or something. Makes me wonder the type of sheltered life they lead that they just barge on in. I've been to parties before where that type of behavior can get the shit kicked outta you or even killed!

    Alpha I've had it happen to me occasionally but I guess I'm just not as likeagle or approachable as you, either that or it's my expression. My tells me sometimes I have an expression when people ask me something that seems border line angry, I didn't even think others could tell I didn't want them near me.

    I have considered open carry options for those situations, a high quality tranquilizer pistol would be great.

    Hunter shooting at the range last weekend.

    Don't know what is going on with this rifle...won't settle down. Shooting FULL POWER, his voice went up to 11, 30-06. I told my gunsmith that this load of mine is TOO POWERFUL for this CHEAP rifle. I am screwed because I am going hunting TONIGHT. I won't have time to go to the store and get new ammo and re-zero. I am SCREWED!!! FUCKING RIFLE SUCKS!

    He was shooting 5 shot groups measuring 6-8" @ 100 yards. Look at the rifle, scope was canted.... grabbed the turret and could move the scope fore and aft...not to mention rotate it. Look at the guy and he said

    FUCKING CHEAP SCOPE RINGS...They SUCK!

    Just SMH...although I did get him squared away and did get a THANK YOU...LOL

    Maybe they make 'em better up North, but down here it's not all that uncommon for someone to be in search of some tools to tighten up rings/bases.

    It's even happened to me a few times in my life :oops: (I've always got pretty much any tool I need wherever I go, though)

    Not really...I am a rarity.

    I am an engineer, a man who actually reads the instructions and someone who always tries to anticipate the unexpected.

    I was taught how to put on rings and a scope by an older gentleman who did it with levels and feeler gauges and know enough about how important correct torque settings are from other activities. Also learned a lot from the regulars here over the years and have the recipe down. Also helps that I don't buy shitty equipment. Always amazed at people who will spend $1,500+ on a scope and won't spend $175 for properly made rings.

    I think I have escaped these situations because I learned how to do it properly and I don't deviate or shortcut the recipe.

    It isn't rocket science...and I am sure it will happen to me eventually. But when it does, I'll know enough to recognize the problem and fix it

    A friend made the mistake of open carrying into Walmart in Pahrump Nv.

    I was concealed.

    Some tweaker looking dude approaches my friend and has a million comments and questions. Great way to mess with your OODA loop.

    I peeled off and played tailgunner Incase this guy decided to liberate My friends sig.....


    Another reminder for the need to carry spray or another tool besides the hammer.

    That's awesome. I'd probably have been an engineer, too, if I'd had some old folks that had some patience and a good understanding of how various things (e.g., firearms, computers, etc.) are made, how they work, and how to care for them.

    Instead, I ended up a reverse engineer. I do read a lot of manuals, but usually not cover-to-cover. I read the intros/synopses and then dig in, and use the manuals for reference when needed. Exceptions to that involve manuals for delicate expensive things (microscopes, lab equipment, optics, etc), and extremely dangerous things. I read that stuff cover to cover.

    That's if manuals are available and/or accurate, of course.

    Rings and rails, I pretty much just need the torque specs.

    My last issue was with my Ruger GSR. Years of heavy use, never a problem (except the extractor I had to delete a few thousandths from with a file so that it could jump the rim of a single-fed round) until a few months ago when the base came loose.

    After ~60 rds, I got a large group out of the next 3 with a pattern that didn't make sense when I expected a small one that did make sense.

    That's a dead giveaway that something is probably fucky with the optics. Rings were tight, but the base had a barely perceptible wobble to it.

    I had apparently failed to apply loctite when I installed it. :rolleyes:

    Moral of that story is, carry loctite and tools cuz shit happens and it's a lot better when fixing the issue only takes a minute or two.

    Wife seems to get all the crazies when she goes out. I’m lucky. Always have that, “today’s not going to be your day” look on my face. So most avoid me like the plague. Maybe it’s the plague dr mask I’m always wearing? ?

    My wife is the same, I have been spending more time lately training her on human nature and body language perceived as passive by others. Such as not looking the pan handlers in the eyes, moving with purpose like your on a personal mission and don't have time for others bullshit and situational awareness everywhere she goes.
    She has this weird belief that humans in general are good and wants to help everybody, that's slowly wearing off as she starts to understand human nature.
    The next phase is cutting others questions off before they ask and moving on.

    I was talking with another patron at the counter in a Bob Evans restaurant about a Twilight episode that I watched. It was set several hundred years in the future but that's beside the point.

    During my summation of this sci-fi episode I mention that one of the characters shoots a robot with a 1911. I then joked, "That just goes to show you how long the 1911 will last."

    When I said that, a 16 year old hostess stops, dead in her tracks, right by us and exclaims, "Did I hear you say 1911? I'm a gun nut. What are you guys talking about? I love anything to do with guns."

    At first I was kind of surprised but given her youth, I could understand her enthusiasm. Had it been a grown man, I would have thought that there was something weird about him. Sixteen year old girls aren't weird - are they?

    Anyway, it is good to see a young person really into guns. She told me that her dad takes her and her boyfriend shooting all the time.

    Most teenagers can't wait to turn 21 so they can consume adult beverages. Not this gal. She told me she can't wait to turn 21 to buy herself a handgun.

    I gave her some information about youth shooting programs at a local club and encourage her on pursuing her love for guns. With that said, it didn't bother me to get interrupted in the middle of my conversation.

    I think in the spirit of this thread and others like it such as the what's the dumbest thing you've been told thread we should start taking a picture of the tards in their natural habitat at the time and place they occur.

    There might be some facial feature or genetic regularities that could be gleaned from it for profiling purposes. ??

    Another, well known, patron of the gun store I frequented found out about it. If you remember, Larry and Darryl and his other brother Darryl from the Bob Newhart show, then you can imagine what this Bozo talked like.

    Anyway, he asked me if I was manufacturing bullets. I said yes.

    Then he asked me (sounding like Larry), "Could you make me some .45 ACP bullets that can go at 3,000 feet per second?"

    Guys, you can't make this stuff up.

    The one unique thing about shooting is that you have to remember that there is a small explosion taking place either near your hand or near your face. All participants are admonished to take the appropriate precautionary measures.

    I think some 120-130gr 45 cal projectiles I could push as fast as possible out of a 460S&W would be pretty entertaining.

    I knew a guy who had some military surplus 7.62mm ammunition. So he decided to polish it in a tumbler with walnut hulls.

    I'll give you three guesses as to how it performed in his M1A and the first one would be correct.

    I'm glad that I wasn't around to witness it.
