Manual Runout Correction

Re: Manual Runout Correction

I'm sure some have used 'em, there is a market for most any gimmick. Not me tho.

My thoughts: I just don't feel very comfortable about bending cartridges in a hand held "bend it some and try it out" process. Much prefer to use my concentricity gage to find run-out when and where run-out occurs and correct it properly, not brute force it afterwards. ??

Re: Manual Runout Correction

These tools IMO do work, but I think it's original intent was for .22 cal match bullets because we don't handload for them.
As for my first sentence "they do work" means yes they will staighten a case/bullet but if then if you chamber it a rifle thats not trued or square with the bolt face and bore of the barrel then it doesnt matter. When the case is ignited the bullet cant move fast enough NOT to be affected when leaving the case mouth. Just like an arrow heading for a wise whitetail buck..if he's been shot at before your arrow would go to go a minimum of 10,000 FPS for him not to have time to react. And thats a fact. So, with said when it all goes boom now the head of the case slams against the bolt face stretching the case UNEVEN and drawing one side of the case/case mouth back farther than the other in the direction of up down left right or some combination of the other ( depends on where the bolt face is un-true and square to the chamber AND bore) then the bullet exits
the bore and guess what, which ever direction the bullet is pointed, again.. left right down up and any combimantion of all..that's the direction it going to go. That's why factory guns with average loads shoot large groups at 1000 yards and trued rifles wheather they be long range BR, target or tactical rifles shoot little bitty groups. It's all about accurate bullet flight.
Oh, and the scores are better too! Which is one of our main focuses as snipers and marksmen. You can't have one with out the other if we're talking about consistancy, and consistancy only will come if your loads are consitant and shot out of a trued rifle. The only consistancy you will get is your rifle will consistanly shoot inconsistantly.

Re: Manual Runout Correction

I have a bunch of special purpose gadgets. And most of them actually work. But if you are a handloader and actually load your own and are having runout problems on loaded rounds, try cleaning your case necks on the inside real good. Carbon fouling can make several thousandths difference.

Re: Manual Runout Correction

I agree..most of the gadgets were designed by shooters who actually use and know what they need to do to improve their handy work so they make it or have it made, then it goes into production if there is a market for it. A lot of tools however that are very high quailty and worth while are not very well known.
