Rifle Scopes March hunting scope 2.5x25x42 are they good?

Hi guys thinking of getting a top of the line scope, and this one looks like it would fit in with what I have(7mm Dakota Custom rifle). Does anyone have any experience with March scopes? i know they are used for benchrest but their new model is for hunting. Also how does their glass compare to a Zeiss , Swarovski, or Smidt&bender? I m looking for a scope with tactical turrets,with a lots of moa, but I would like it if its not a tank, as its not going on a very heavy gun.

So far, to date, the only scope I know of that could resolve 6mm holes in the black on a NBRSA target was a March 10-60x50.

I have not owned one, but they are top dollar. The top BR guys all swear by them. I'd love to own one, but have a USO on the way.

I didn't know they were offering a hunting version. I had seen a Tactical version with exposed turrets and an EREK style elevation knob, and it was in the 2.5-25x range.

I can tell you that they have a 5 year, non transferrable warranty. That is the only thing that seems to be holding a lot of guys back.

For a comparison of the March and a S&B, go to www.6mmbr.com. A guy there bought and compared a March 10-60x with a S&B 12-50x and it was a toss up. Do a search for March, you'll find it.

They also have introduced a tactical reticle. Not sure what it looks like but if you find out, send me a PM.

Many of the best shooters in the country have dumped whatever they were using and have picked up March scopes. My gunsmith, who holds a few world records in benchrest is one of them. He says it is the most reliable, repeatable scope he has ever owned. He is referring to lack of movement in the reticle and repeatability in the turrets. Even the very best scopes have shortcomings in these areas. He doesn't think the glass is anything special. I think that is because all the top scopes have outstanding glass and it gets hard to see the differences with your bare eyes.

I can't get over the 5-year non-transferable warranty myself and $3K is a lot of dough

We're playing with the 1-10x right now and it is almost too good to be true...only complaint we have is in regards to the reticle.

Adding to the comments above. I asked my gunsmith a lot of questions about these scopes:
1. Q: How does nightforce compare? A: They seem as reliable but they are too heavy for my benchrest category. March glass is better...as is Leupold.
2. Q: Which scopes did you use before March? A: Leupold, great customer service but got tired of using it so often.
3. Q: How does the March glass compare to others? A: The glass is excellent, but I would not say it is any better than Leupold, S&B, etc.
4. Q: What is the main reason you moved to March? A: turrets and reticles I can count on. They do the same thing on every click every time without fail.

Your gunsmith compares the glass to being as good as Leupold or S&B. Well, which is it? Leupold is not even in the same class as S&B.

You aren't kidding.

Here is the link that compares the March 10-60x vs. S&B 12.5-50x.

I know its not the hunting model, but it is at least a good comparison of the quality and the glass, and its unbiased.

He was saying he thinks Leupold has outstanding glass and put it on par with any other product. His eyes did not see March being any better or worse.

Maybe some of you are trained well and can distinguish the differences. I never really saw much of a difference: all the glass seemed really good. I'm not sure any difference allows you to shoot better. Good turrets definitely make a difference.

From the accurateshooter review I read I can see a few issues with it being a tactical scope, features that aren't an issue with benchrest.

Limited elevation
1/8" clicks
Much smaller FOV

Now this is for the 50x scope so maybe the "tactical" March addresses some of these issues, I don't know.

I agree with you Jason, and that was a bench rest shooter reviewing a bench rest scope. I hope that the tactical versions are held to the same standard, but compromise on the elevation and adjustment issues. I'm tempted to call Kelbly's on Monday and see what the tactical version offers. I've only ever seen one of the tactical March scopes, and it was on fleabay. I remember it did have the EREK style elevation knob, was a 2.5-25x, had exposed turrets and sold for just shy of 2k, used. I don't remember any of the specs on it other than that. It would be nice to have someone who owns one chime in. Just not sure that there are that many of them out there yet.

I just committed to a USO T-PAL or I'd be really tempted to buy one. While they only have the 5 year warranty, the last thing I read about their BR scopes was that not one has had an issue or been sent back.

I've heard of a few of them being sent back to Japan for inspection/repair. The owners were happy with the service. Nothing is perfect....especially when trying to ride a recoiling exploding device...over and over and over.

The usual suspects for benchrest: high magnification fixed and variables. The problems usually were reticles that moved shot to shot and turrets with inconsistent click adjustments from click to click.

I had the chance to examine one last month. The reticle in it was way too fine for any hunting or tactical application. It was a prototype and I don't know if they are going to change it or not. It was the hunting 2.5 x 25 model. The illumination was turned on by pushing a rubber covered button in for different intensity settings. It was in the center of the focus knob.

The glass looked good and it appeared to be well made. However the reticle would dissapear in a hunting situation. Unless you were only hunting Dall sheep and mountain goats!

I have one of the 2.5-25x Tactical scopes. Quality-wise it is great. Unfortunately, it is 2FP with 1/4MOA clicks and a really fine reticle.

IF they could make the same scope FFP MIL/MIL with a decent reticle it would put up some serious competition, even at the well-over $2k price.

I have not been able to get it out in low light yet.

Which recticule was it you were looking at? Whas it the duplex?
