SFP if you're going to hunt with it. The problem with hunting with FFP is the reticle gets awful thin/tiny at low power (where you'll likely be hunting at). FFP is nice for target, but frankly you'll feel like SFP hunting performance is more important than FFP target convenience once you have an animal in the glass.

May want to think about going with the 52mm objective lense. The reviews of the 42mm were pretty harsh on the eye box. I had a 52mm model and liked it. Got rid of it because the reticle was too thick for my liking.

I have a FFP 3-24×52 on a lightweight .280AI hunting rifle.
Personally, I don't have a problem hunting on 3x for close or moving shots. But, even on long range shots on stationary objects and game, I rarely hunt on top magnification, or much above 15-17x, even for very long shots over 1000. But the 24x is really nice when shooting at targets or jackrabbits WAY out. So having my subtensions consistent at all magnifications is really helpful, since I dial for elevation but hold for wind.

FFP. Mil/Mil.

You’re welcome

tHIS with wat he didn't add - the march retc at low power on FFP is great for hunting or any pt blank shooting because the retc at low power has very thick cross beams that go to points at the center. this makes it easy to see the crosshair because as the retc shrinks, the beam thickness grows. tough to explain but a great feature.

other reason to not waste your time with SFP as you will forget what zoom zoom power you are on and hold a wind for a normally ethical kill and be holding 2x too much wind...

Regards,
DT

I've got two 3-24 x 42 FFP with the Mil-R, and D_TROS is correct about the reticle on low power, it just looks like a tapered duplex. Past about 9x the centre dot becomes useful, and other than varminting/target shooting I haven't used it much past 16-18x - there just doesn't seem to be a lot of need.

Hey all. A little late to the party here. Been thinking about getting into f-class and of course been banging my head looking at glass. I have finally decided on March...if I can actually find what I want in stock. I am seriously looking at the 8-80 but it only comes in SFP but I have been really considering FFP. I also kinda like the FFP reticles a little better. With that said, oh people with wisdom...thoughts? Also, if using reticle to range does it get messed up if starting in 8x?

Just get FFP and be done with it. I prefer MIL but they both do the same thing.

I only used March 2.5-25x52mm SFP I love mine it blows the Nightforce NXS out of the water. Very good hunting scope Parallax is one of my favorite features of the scope. Fast and easy to clear up
