I wanted to know what a small red square(looks like approx. 1/2x1/2")placed on the front of a cover signifies? It wasn't exibited, worn by everyone, just a few marines. The school was for a mountain war-fare school by Mammoth Mt.Ca.

Re: marine corps mark

Exactly Right. We also hook up big heavy stuff to the bottom of helicopters as they hover over our heads. Fun stuff. Although I took off those patches as soon as I landed in Iraq.

Re: marine corps mark

That's pretty cool.

I've seen similar red tape, patches, or marks on Army soldiers in training and it usually signified soldiers with prior heat-stroke or other heat injuries, who were more susceptible to it in the future and thus required closer monitoring.

Completely different meaning for what sounds like a similar marking system.

Re: marine corps mark

I heard they put the red patches on there because back in WWII some grunts where claiming to be part of the logistics crews to get out of landing on the beach.
