Gunsmithing Marine Tex

Re: Marine Tex

I plan on bedding the action, lug back with Devcon, I have a big tub of that. I had to do some barrel channel 'hogging' in my one HSP stock for Rosie, and I wanna fill it in. I was going to mix up a crap load of gel, but thought I might give the M Tex a try.

Re: Marine Tex

One more for Marine Tex. In no way am I going to say that the others like Devcon are less in any way. I don't like to say something is good enough because it sounds like you don't mind just getting by. Marine Tex is better than just good enough. It does what we need and last for life. What more is there??? So if you want something that promises more, then by all means, do it. I just have a hard time driving past something that works like I need, to use something that cost more, and does the same work.

Re: Marine Tex

Thanks for the replies everyone, you provided the information in question. I have several to do and may well MT Rosie completely, and then do TreFitty with Devcon for a skim bed since his barrel contour matches the stock and requires no 'hogging.' I'm doing a lot more 'serious' rifle builds these days and the experimentation is necessary, so to speak.

My understanding is that if you deviate from the recommended hardener ratio to adjust thickness, or cure it more quickly with added heat, then shrinkage is increased.

I have done neither, and had no detectable shrinkage. This based on un-taped, polished recoil lugs that are a nice smooth light friction fit.
So if it shrank, it wasn't enough to cause the recoil lug to be in any way loose after bedding.
