Just got back from the range and it seems this scope is not adjusting properly. it is a mark 4 4.5-14. at 100 yards, in order to get the target in focus, there is a very narrow range on the parallax knob that will get the target clear... like narrow enough where it's a royal pain in the ass to get it focused. then going to 200-300, I can increase it slightly, and it seems to be in focus OK. still though, with the target in focus, the parallax itself seems to be out of whack.. the crosshairs are just not clear like I think they should be.

Is it possible that if the rings are over torqued it could cause this problem? I have an IOR 20 MOA base, with seekins rings...

also, just for reference, I had my AR with a vortex viper right next to me, and I did not have this issue, even with a higher power setting on the vortex.

any ideas, or should I just send it back to leupold for them to inspect?

Re: Mark IV parallax issue/question

I would just remove the ring caps, get behind your rifle and see what happens. maybe leave one on just finger tight so the scope doesn't move when you adjust it or fall off the bench...This will eliminate any type of mounting problem. If its still not working properly then send it to Leupold.
If it is a mounting issue, move the rings around and see if you can get them off the spot that's causing the issue. Make sure nothing is in a bind rings OR base...

Re: Mark IV parallax issue/question

I just took the scope off, and re lapped the rings. I read a thread on here about rings sometimes distorting after they have been secured to the base. The lapping showed quite a bit of wear into the sides of the rings, so maybe this was a factor..

that makes me think even more they may be over torqued.... I need to get an inch pounds torque wrench

I'll try just sitting it in the bottom half of the rings, wish I would have thought of that at the range...

Re: Mark IV parallax issue/question

I had a brand new 4.5-14 Mk 4 a few months ago that had very narrow/unforgiving parallax adjustment, like you described. I can't remember any of my older MK4's ever being quite as touchy as the most recent one was.

Re: Mark IV parallax issue/question

I don't really like it... why have all that focus range that is essentially useless? my zeiss and vortex both have a relatively large focus range...

maybe this leupold is just "precise"...

And that's why my Leupy is up for sale. My NF does'nt have this issue at all.
