Marks on Brass--What are they? Is it OK?

Thanks for the help all. I have a RRA LAR8 which functions perfectly on lots of different ammo and is very accurate. Just wanted to know if any of you with more experience can help me identify the marks at the neck and the single hash mark half way up the brass and is it something i need to address. The brass pictured is from Federal 168gr Sierra Match.

The marks on the neck are most likely from hitting the barrel extension on its way out. The one on the center of the case is probably from hitting the deflector or the receiver at the base of the deflector.

Trimming a coil or two off your ejector spring might ease this problem but I wouldn't attempt it without having a replacement spring.

You can check your barrel extension lugs for any signs of unusual wear/tear or burrs and polish/clean-up as needed, but that isn't uncommon with ARs, especially large frame ARs. Remember that Federal brass is fairly soft too, so it may show up worse with Fed brass than some others. I'd skip the rubber piece on the deflector though and just find yourself some 3M tape hook/loop velcro material. Cut a piece of the "loop" side of the material to fit your deflector face, then peel the backing and affix it accordingly. It should last a LONG time under regular use.

I would advise you NOT to go hacking up on your springs to address this issue at this point, but if you simply must...then having replacements on hand is a must-have. ;)

Good luck!

I get the exact same marks on my win brass out of my DPMS LR 308. My brass usually all lands @ about 2:00 o'clock from the rifle maybe 3' away. Will changing the buffer spring cure this? Or is the pad on the upper the only answer?
