I just picked up a new Marlin Model XS7Y in .308 for $288 bux. It's probably not up to some of your standards, but so far it performs well. I put a crappy Center point mil dot scope on it when I bought the gun. It didn't last long at the range lol. So I got a BSA 3-9x40. Anyone else had a chance to play with one yet? Not a bad deer getter for the price.

Re: Marlin XS7Y

alot of guys i know are rebarreling them with savage varmit barrels. using the same nut wrench and process as a savage.

the action is just as good as a savage the trigger and stock are better then the savage. So all in all a good base rifle.

enjoy your purchase and shoot the barrel out, then replace it yourself.

Re: Marlin XS7Y

Using Savage barrels you MUST have a smith check the head space closely and be prepared to face a few thousandths off the chamber. The depth of the recessed bolt face is different and some Savage "drop-ins" will vary in chamber depth. You might mic it and find that it's perfect, or you might find you have to machine some off. It is most definitely NOT a simple swap unless you measure closely and can see for sure there's no issue.

Someone is going to get hurt screwing a Savage drop-in onto a Marlin XS one day because they were told the threads and wrench are the same and didn't take it to a gunsmith. Try to help get the word out.
