match 7mm-08

[Savage15]

Hey guys,

I have a M700 in 7mm08 that Ive been using only for hunting and have a good load for the 139 gr SSTs. I was wondering what kind of loads you guys are using for this caliber in your tactical or target guns. Anything for the 162 AMax?

I'm planning on re-barreling this gun with a 20" bartlein and putting it in a chassis system.

I have a Bartlein 28" 1/8twist,

.308 lap brass sized down to 708,
Cci br2 primers
All loaded to 2.905" COAL

162 amax 44.7 viht n550= 2860fps .5moa
162 amax 44.5 H4350 = 2780fps .5moa

175 smk 42.2 viht n550= 2650fps .5moa

All of these loads are nicely in the middle of an OCW node,
(In MY rifle) and no pressure signs.

As usual, work up slow and check for pressure in your rifle.

hey GFunkUK what kind of velocities do you think i could get out of a 22 inch barrel with the 44.7 grains of n550?

I cant wait to build this gun up. Its going to knock the pants off of my 308 that shoots 178 Amax's.

Well there are so many variables, of course, but a ballpark guess of 2700fps.

Remember also, that your brand new barrel could easily get faster after a couple hundred rounds through it, mine gained about 50fps after the first x100.

With a 22 inch barrel, n550 might not be your best choice, maybe something a little faster burn rate, H4350 is the go-to powder, and other guys seem to be getting good results with 2000mr as JGORSKI mentioned above.
Don't overlook Varget either..

Dont count on that, both my 308s shoot 178s pretty well, not to mention more speed from the 308 using CFE223 or 2000MR powders. But the 162AMAX does have better BC than the 178s.

In my GAP 7mm08 the 168 SMK loaded with H4350 gives best results. The load shoots well at least to 1000 yards (longest distance I've shot it).
