I've been playing with a Remington 5r Milspec 24" for a couple of months now. My accuracy has been about 2 MOA with cheap .308 ammo until this weekend. After reading numerous posts stating that the 5r requires 168-175 gr match ammo to attain sub MOA groups I finally purchased some decent .308 from the LGS. I ran a box of Hornady 168 gr BTHP Match through the weapon on Sunday. It made all the difference. The firearm was finally as accurate as I could hold it. I shot a 5 shot group I could cover with a quarter at 100 yards. Thanks to all the seasoned shooters showing me the way. I will try other match ammo in the future (Federal Matchking in 168 and 175, etc.) and anticipate eventually getting into reloading.

Try the FGGM 168 and the 7.62 175s. You'll think you got a Factory Freak. 5R are by no means custom or fancy compare to the High End stuff. But for a factory starter rig it out shoots most of the shooters who are or arn't willing to admit. Have fun with it and Start Reloading!
