My dad's best friend from childhood had his matched pair, never-fired, blued Colt Boas stolen. These were only made in 1985 and of the 2000 guns made, only 100 matched sets were produced. Insurance is saying they were only worth a couple hundred each and they'll only pay out if he replaces them. Due to their rarity, shouldn't they be worth alot more? Any help fighting insurance?

Secondly, he lives in San Diego so if you guys happen to see a NIB 4" and 6" matched pair of Colt Boas, PLEASE CALL ME.

He needs an attorney. Tell the Insureance company to find him a matched pair for the price they are willing to pay and its a deal, otherwise, they can go F themselves.

Re: Matched pair of Colt Boas stolen in San Diego

The matched set is a consecutive run with the 6 inch barrel being given the even number and the 4 inch an odd serial number. The insurance company and your friend should first check the Blue book price. Your friend should also contact a reputable gun dealer and have the dealer provide and appraisal. Hopefully he has photos of the guns to to verify condition. Even a cylinder rotation mark will de-devlaue the gun to some degree.
As for the attorney, why pay the attorney part of the value of the guns. Your friend can prove the value of the guns.

This is not to be construed as legal advice, but common sense approach to avoid a conflict.

Insurances usualy cover curent market value, not original. If he can prove the market value of these pistold, they have to cover it.

I think certain collectible item(guns, wine, coins, jewelery ect) need to have their own rider on your home owners policy. other wise they only cover a limited amount. Need to check with his agent.
