Mattis

I wonder how much dirt the swamp has on Mattis. We already know the swamp has some dirt on Justice Roberts.
Rumor was he had a gf on the west and east coast. Typical shitbag.

more proof his warrior monk persona was bullshit.

Somewhere around LtCol, everyone becomes a politician. It grows (has to) in order to advance.

Regardless of what he did as a Marine, just what does it say about this 'quiet, extremely well thought out, tactician' that he agrees to become a Secretary under Trump and all the due diligence that comes with that on both sides, and then does this? Was he not up to the job, or was this yet another thing he got involved in and didn't live up to his legend with, like in the Theranos thing?

As an Officer he must resign his commission not to be under UMCJ. Just saying he could be called back and be Court Martial
Per Congress, the UCMJ applies to any retiree (regardless of rank), or reservist.

However, Art. 88 ("contemptuous words against the President...") applies to commissioned officers.

...but it's all moot...GOs (or any rank for that matter) turned politician have been spouting off since forever.

We often give too much deference (IMO) to individuals purely due to their service. Your service is commendable and appreciated...but I'm going to take your CURRENT words and actions at face value.

I don't know if I'd call this unloading or just dropping the big burst of light:

Spot on letter.
I was one who once thought Mattis levitated. I could not think of a man I respected more.

i am not going to speak for anyone else, and i was not here 3 years ago to see for myself.
that said, i think maybe you might consider thinking about the revelations about iraq and afghanistan that have come out since then, namely:

All the military top leadership lied about "progress" constantly, and when they realized they were never going to make any real progress, they doubled down and kept lying, because apparently they either didn't know what else to do, liked killing people more than they cared about getting american soldiers killed, or they expected payment for keeping the war going from the companies that profit from death.

Americans were paying billions for repairs to schools that were never built, and hospitals that didn't exist, and

Mattis was previously on the General Dynamics Board of Directors from
2013-2017 where he received compensation of $900,000.

Gen. Mattis re-joined the company's board of directors in August 2019

i have friends that knew him, served with him, and despise him.

but go ahead and defend him, turbo. good for you.

imho, mattis was a puffed up cock sucking, warmongering asshole.
he just accused Trump of using the military and tear gas to clear the protesters for his walk to the church.
the park service cleared it
they didn't use any tear gas
trump didn't decide to visit the church until after the protesters were moved back.
This😳😳😳

We live in a post law world where only liberal and socialistslaws are enforced while people are robbed, burned and killed with impunity.

Want to see a civil war happen in the US? Let law and order continue to break down and people will start handling shit on their own.

You just dont make it past 05 without being a political hack. Most good officers get out at 03 when they realize how rigged the game is and everything they have been told their whole life was a lie.

Confirmed

The Navy is probably the most political of them all. When I was a Navy GS I absolutely was appalled by the quality of Officers. Most of the pilots and NFO were good dudes but most of the rest..... The NCOs must run the Navy but I think they remove your common sense upon reaching E8. Did work with a E9 who was the chief of staff for the MCPON and he was one of the best NCO's I ever met, of any service. Guy would walk over fire and glass to take care of his troopies.

Marine Officers have been very solid IME. The Basic school and screening process really weeds out a lot of the shit heads. Only met a few bad Marine officers and Senior NCO's. Took the Marine Corps Six Sigma course at the pentagon from a fat black female E8. She may have been able to lead a frontal assault on a krispy creame. But that is really the exception and I loved watching TBS candidates getting thrashed at Quantico when we would shoot there. Promotions come MUCH harder in the MC with a lower officer/enlisted ratio of the branches and fewer slots. I think this smaller scale lets them control the quality much better than say the Army or Navy which are massive in comparison.

Air Force Officers are more like DMV in uninform. Little to no actual troop leading duties, with the NCO running the shops keeping the service in the air. If I wanted to skate for 20 years and play golf and never sleep in the dirt or a condemned barracks, AF would be the #1 choice.

The Army is so big and much more segmented you can kind of coast under the radar. You have actual branches unlike the navy where they stick u wherever the fuck to OJT for a few years.

Most of the really good officers get out at O3 when their MSO is through because they realize you can either Be great officers who look after their men while completing the mission or they can be Careerist hacks who play the game resulting in a less lethal and effective fighting force.

I have heard that the officer quality in both Batt and SF are much better but you still have the careerists there as well.

My Brother is a 04 in the Army and we both enlisted around the same time and he went to OCS a few years later. Finance officer who was Finance enlisted and never really had a command other than a finance det. Good Guy buy I would shoot him myself before letting him lead me in combat. He doesn't play the political game and his is the wrong skin color and sex for promotion in his small state. Will probably Max out as a Staff 05 in a few years if he is lucky. He is only in now because he has 15 years and is a GS on the civy side, so 5 more years to retirement.

If you make it past 6 years as an officer, get to 10 then go guard or reserves you can just coast along to retirement. These guys are almost as bad as the "true believers" , would you want someone who really doesn't care leading you, especially on deployment?

So yea Most of the Good O's get out early. Those that stay maybe 10% are worth keeping around 40% are just buying time to retirement and 50% play the political bullshit that results in a weaker nation and and losing wars.

Every flag officer I've known since getting out (mostly corporate lobbyists and consultants) have been a fucking wierdos. This one General, who works for a client of mine, completely creeps me out. I honestly stopped going to their little soirees because he was such an uncomfortable close talker, and seemed to think we're friends or something. He would single me out in a crowded room, walk straight towards me, and invade my space on a comical level, like every meaningless small talk thing he said was some big secret that he would only share with me, and everyone else in the room is a commie spy trying to listen. I'm getting shivers thinking about it.
I have a couple of others that do weird shit too, but none as bad as that General.

Have you heard of Mattis, Kelly and Neller?

Navy pilots and NFOs are not different than those in the AF. Very little leadership role, interested in flying and partying only.

I served on two very different ships. One with a squared away wardroom (a frigate) one with a big mix of career hacks, squared away guys, and fuckups (a carrier)

The Army is so big and much more segmented you can kind of coast under the radar. You have actual branches unlike the navy where they stick u wherever the fuck to OJT for a few years.
The Army and the Navy are exactly the same. Four combat "arms" in the Navy: surface warfare, submarine service, aviation, NSW; and the rest is admin/support. Plenty of places to hide away non-hackers doing menial out of the way jobs in both of them.

I'm older, retired, and never served. Pulled a lot of years in state/federal corrections as a guard, parole officer, and various other positions. Close as I got. I have always had immense respect for those who did or currently wore the uniform. Same for law enforcement. Not naive tough, good and bad, Intelligent and not so much so in every walk of life. Very unsettling to think about some who hold high positions. Having said that, I am sick and tired of those who are destroying this country. They have neither the personal character or intestinal fortitude to do the right thing. It is past time for Trump to explain to all of that bunch that pen and paper are still in abundance and he would be more than happy to accept their resignation. Or, in the alternative, he could show them the door. Enough!

And that reverence wasn't necessarily misplaced... it was directed at the man's service in battle. (vice him as a politician)

Reminds me of the whole McCain discussion.

He didn't do jack shit in battle. It was a fabricated persona. He spent his whole career playing up this warrior monk bullshit.

I still want to know how a LTC gets a Bronze star with Valor Device.

The one time he could have actually done something heroic, he left men (SF from an ODA) to die on the battlefield because he was scared to act. They had to send a rescue package from Kyrgyzstan 4 hours away when Mattis forces were less than an hour away. The soldiers died en route to a field hospital and would have survived if they got there in the golden hour.

He is/wasa hack and all you have to do is listen to people who worked with him and served with him and not many have great things to say.
