What is the max COAL that a AI mag can run a 308 in?

AICS or AW mags?

My short action AW mags measure 3.00" inside.

Cartridges loaded any longer than 2.88" will hang in my AICS pattern mags.

You can drill out the spot welds retaining the front plate of the AICS magazines, and then weld up the resulting holes.

This will allow cartridges loaded to ~2.950" to fit/feed.

If you do that, you have to be careful of the feed lip on your action. Without the plate the tip of the bullets will catch under the lip and jam everything up.
