Looking to use a 6.5 PRC to shoot from a tripod with a very light (7-8) lbs hunting rifle. I’m concerned the damage from this mag cartridge may damage the ballhead. Does anyone have any experience with shooting larger caliber weapons on a ballhead vs the normal 6mm 20 lb rifles?

    I’m using a LH-55 ballhead

I've shot my .300NM from my Uniqball UBH 45 head - no real issues so far, except I did have to tighten up the allen key bolt on the top of the head once after a string of fire with the .300NM.

I have been playing around with the new RRS Anvil 30 head and can easily believe their claims that the clamping power of this little head is superior to any other ball head on the market by a pretty wide margin and better than most any leveling base one might be willing to carry around.

A high quality head, rated for at least 50 lbs, is not likely to break from recoil with most heavy caliber rifles. But many that are that robust are pretty heavy and large.
Also, you have to take into consideration how much the head/leveling base will shift after recoil. If you have to loosen the head, reacquire your target, and then lock the head super tight again after every shot, how much is it really helping you?
Ideally, you want a compact and lightweight head, easy to lock and unlock, won't shift after recoil, and is easy on the wallet. What combination of those is most important is up to you and your expected OP.
