Today shooting my AR-15 RRA 20" Coyote upper. I was testing two different loads to determine which to hunt with tomorrow. TAC or Benchmark behind a 55 gr V-Max. Benchmark was 75fps faster and more accurate( 3/4-1"MOA) then TAC (1"-1 1/2" MOA both at 100 yds). So I figured I'd save the Benchmark for tomorrows hunt. But ! Shooting water filled tin cans(16oz) at 200 yds was problem free with the less accurate TAC load. Didn't have time to try at 300yds.... So a willing coyote is DOA with either load.

No problem just an observation that the tightest group wasn't necessary to hit tin cans at 200 yds 10 out 10 times.I'll try it at 300 yds next trip to the range.

Ohhhhhhh yeh.

Pffffft groups!

For hunting purposes groups dont mean all that much. At 200 yards you just need to hit the vitals, or whatever it is that drops ur targets right there.

For load development, yes groups have a place!

Re: Maybe taking group size too seriously

What I strive for is first shot accuracy out of my hunting rifles. A good group is great for my target rifles, but if that first shot is not in the bullseye with my hunting rigs, then I need to do something different.

Take care,Stan

+1...
Once again, I have to agree with Stan. I want my first shot to on the money.

Re: Maybe taking group size too seriously

Last time I checked, I have never shot a 3 shot group on a deer! I test my deer rifle by shooting at a 10x10 inch steel plate starting at 100 ayrds and go back to the max distance i will shoot that rifle at...usually 500 yards. hit the plate, more centered the closer i am to it, on the first shot, rifle is ready, done.
Works pretty well.
