Re: McGowin barrel ?

I've had 2 in 15'' pistol length in 260rem ,both shot out around 3500/4000 rds and were still shooting great , except I did not like what I saw in the bore scope .

Re: McGowin barrel ?

I have one being machined to fit an AR22. The gunsmith has been having excellent success with them.

Re: McGowin barrel ?

Was hopeing to get more reports on them..Well,I will put it on anyway and judge for myself..

Re: McGowin barrel ?

I also bought a 223 barrel from Jim a few years back. Mine is a 26 inch, 8 twist, varmint contour. It has always cleaned easy, with little to no copper showing.
I have run 52, 53, 55, 69, 75, and 77 grain bullets through it. The 55gr were just cheap bulk and shot around 1.5 MOA at 100-200yds. The other weight bullets were good quality match loads, or hand loads that shot sub MOA, usually averaging just over .5MOA for an afternoons range session.
In short I am very happy with getting this barrel. Hope yours performs great for you, good shooting.

Re: McGowin barrel ?

I've been very pleased with mine. It seems to shoot everything i throw at it really well. There seems to be very little copper build up, would buy another without hesitation.

Re: McGowan barrels ?

You might try searching the forum(s)over at Savage Shooters dot com. There seems to be quite a few guys running them over there. Other than shipping time issues in the past, can't say I've ever read anything bad about them. (I don't have one).

Re: McGowin barrel ?

Bought the same barrel from them two years ago in bull barrel contour and it is like an axle. Great but heavy barrel.

Put it on an accurized CZ action. Once shot seven shots in same hole at 50 yards with 45-grain V-Max. Best groups at 100 yards were .28 and .32 in 5-shot groups.

Also, hit a a double prairie-dog shot at 338 yards (ranged and then stepped off). These are bests, mind you, but average is sub-.50 at 100 yards. Needless to say there is all but no recoil. I have a Leupold VX-3LR 8.5-25x50 with varmint hunter reticle atop it.
