McM A5 and flex..

Re: McM A5 and flex..

The a5 is a quality stock, I don't own one personally but I have been behind a few and have never felt any sort of flexing going on. That said if you think you are loading the bipod hard enough To cause worry about bending the stock I have a feeling you may be loading too hard.

Re: McM A5 and flex..

I think they make some of the best stocks on the market.. Never owned a Manners or AICS stock but hear they too make quality products. You shouldn't have any worries with flexing.

I don't completely agree with this. I have an A5 on a HEAVY rig that the stock flexed enough and hit the barrel. The barrel was floated enough to slide a business card through but it still hit. So I went to Lowes and bought a large dowel rod and inlet the channel a little more. Problem solved. Keep in mind my gun does weigh 18 lbs.

Get your stock and be proud of your purchase. It will serve you fine. I now have 3.

I've heard of guys flexing them to the point there was POI affect, as in, sub to above MOA. Just wondering how much. If its a point to consider, then the A4 USMC Spec is probably the route. My GAP is not light.

Re: McM A5 and flex..

POI/POA shift will come fron the float clearance closing, which will come from weight, not laoding pressure. Loading your bipod should flex the forend away from the barrel...

I've never had a problem with any quality stock with sufficient clearance. I'd want a couple business cards thick to be able to slide freely in any rifle over a varmint contour....

Re: McM A5 and flex..

I had a Manners MCS-T in 90% carbon fiber shell which would flex quite a bit at the fore-end. Caused some problems. I replaced the stock with a T2 in a standard fill and problem gone.

If I had my time again I probably would have kept the stock and stiffened the front end with an aluminium insert or similar. May not have eliminated the torque effect though..

My Savage 260 AI is mounted in an A5. I don't have a accurate scale to weigh it with but I'd guess it's up around 16-18 lbs. One of the first things I noticed when I took the first shot was how the new stock resonated. As far as flex goes, I haven't noticed any.
You've got me thinking now. Maybe I should put a dial indicator on it and actually take a measurement.

My A5 is friggin Stout! It's not like its a hogue overmold off a SPS Remington. Imho if its flexing enough to cause impact shifts your one big dude, or maybe the barrel channel is wrong for your barrel profile. I don't see any of my McMillans flexing all.

My winmag is in a McMillan Adj A3-5. The inletting was top notch. Handles my recoil great. Doesnt flex with my Harris bipod. The stock does have a "hard plastic feel" to it. Now my Manners T3 has a nicer feel to it, almost like a rubbery / more dead feel to it. However, the inletting on my Manners was not as nice as the McMillan....and I have always found that to be the case.

I absolutely LOVE the way my Manners stock feels compared to the McMillan. If Manners get do a bit better on the inletting, I think I will switch to them exclusively.
