My McM is getting inletted for a Badger M5, and I can have the barrel channel opened up for no additional charge. I currently have the factory SPS AAC-SD barrel, but will rebarrel in the future when I get the action trued. What barrel channel should I have it opened up to?

I believe it is currently a varmint contour channel.

Re: McM A5, what barrel channel?

Question is, what barrel will you use on a rebarrel?? I would decide that now, and have the stock inletted for that barrel. You will end up with gaps along the sides of the barrel if you chose a contour like an MTU, or M40. This will mean less work for the guy doing the work, which should equal less cost to you. You can also go with the correct inlet for what you have now, and let the smith open it up for the correct barrel contour later at an added cost.

How soon are you planning to rebarrel? I would have the stock contoured to accept your current barrel unless you are planning a rebarrel in the next year or so. In that case, I would have it contoured for the new barrel, although you may not know your cylinder length until you order the barrel.

Re: McM A5, what barrel channel?

I don't care if the barrel has gaps along the sides, if it's free-floated, it's free floated. I'd just like it to be opened up enough that I won't have issues later. I'm going to get it opened up now so I don't have to do the whole shipping/wait 3 weeks/pay for work and round trip shipping twice.

P.S. Thanks for the input, I'll ask them to open it up for an M40 contour.
