McM Stock option poll

Re: McM Stock option poll

Depends on how heavy you want the stock to be. I went with Sni-fill and regret it. Too heavy. My next stock will be either a Edge, or lite fill.

Re: McM Stock option poll

I have the regular fill on a 223 R700/PSS 20" in an HTG and the ballance is perfect.

On the other hand I have a 308 R700/#9 Kreiger 20" in an A1-3 with sniper fill and the balance is also perfect.

I believe you need to know what length/contour barrel and caliber you want to use to help you make the best decision on stock fill.

This is the little write up from Hogstooth.

Ok you guys covered some different fills but I think someone needs to tell the newbs what the different levels are so that the don't order a solid glass fill and find out it is too heavy.

Edge- Is the lightest fill, in my opinion is too light for a tactical rifle, good for hunting or some other app, you also can't add any features such as spacers or adj cheek.

Standard Fill- This is a regular fill and is just right for me, I'm not jumping out of trucks, helos, or boats anymore so it will stand up to what I am going to dish out which is carrying it to the line and shooting.

Sniper Fill- This is what the military gets cause they do jump out of trucks, helos, boats, and airplanes. It will really take the abuse and I'm sure Dick can chime in as to how many have actually come back from them broken. Not many.

Solid Fill- This is just like Dick said the heaviest you can get without adding shot, I don't think I need anything heavier unless I am crippled and in a wheelchair shooting from a benchrest. Even then I don't want a heavy rifle cause at some point I have to handle the thing, and I'm a puss these days and don't like to over do anything.

Whatever comes after Solid Fill- Rediculous unless you have to meet a weight requirement or want to bed your howitzer trying to obtain hitting within 10m of your intended POI within your grid square.

Hope this helps and if I didn't name a fill correctly "I'm sorry" there are others who are more knowlegable "Dick Davis" than I and I am sure they will fill in the corrections. Oh, and the staff at McMillan seem to know what they are doing, you can also go on their web site, I think the fills are listed on there somewhere.

Re: McM Stock option poll

One more not mentioned is the Magnum fill which is supposed to sit right in between the Standard fill and the Sniper fill. If I remember correctly, there is roughly a 2-3 ounce difference as you go up with each step from Standard to Sniper (in the HTG configuration atleast).

I also don't believe the Magnum fill is available in all models.
