I was wondering if a mcmillan a5 stock inletted for BLD bottom metal can be re-inletted for something like a badger drop in bottom metal. basically i would prefer a magazine fed system, but if it cant be done or it isnt cost effective, i can and will be happy with the BLD. what is one looking at cost wise to get this done.thanks

With some minor sanding a wyatts magazine fits right in the mcmillan A-5 BDL. Works great, I used one in my Mcmillan A-5 long action. You can get them on gunbroker.com

Re: McMillan A-5

You can inlet it your self, but if you have never done it before I highly suggest you let McMillan or Badger do it. I can guarantee you would be much happier with the look and fit when they do it. There is a difference between a high end CNC machine ran by and experienced operator, and a dremel tool. I tell you this to save you from messing up your very expensive stock. By the way, if you take the DIY route and don't like it, you can always send it back to McMillan for reconstruction, but you will have to pay a little more. Good luck with what you decide to do.

Re: McMillan A-5

Thanks. I am going to either send it to badger or McMillan. I am still waiting for it in the mail to begin with. Am I correct in the statement that it needs to be re-cut before getting it bedded? I am asking this becuase i was wondering if i could get it bedded and then shoot for a while and then get it recut while not having to get it rebedded but i doubt i can go that route.

Re: McMillan A-5

Right now the stock has a camo pattern on it. I like it but was wondering if down the road i decided to go with just a plain black, how easily can that be done? I have sprayed Gun Kote on many AR parts and i like doing things myself but i am not willing to screw up an expensive stock. is repainting something i can and should do? will it mess with the resale value? like i said i like the camo and probably will leave it that way but just trying to search out options here. thanks.

Re: McMillan A-5

You might want to check out hooper ordnance, I have the same thing that your doing. A-5 bdl short action from what I understand it only takes a small amout of dremal work to open it up enough so his bottom metal is almost a drop in fit. Going to order mine from him tommorow. Hope this helps

Ours does require some fitting. Not as extensive as others I have seen on the market but will need fitting. If you have a mill, we provide a detailed sheet with coordinates indicating off the rear action screw hole so you can cut with an endmill with no guesswork.

You also get a contoured lever that does not have the drop down lever so it does not snag on stuff. All you do is knock the pin out and swap levers.

Re: McMillan A-5

CDI does do great work. If you really want to learn, I will send you 10 old stocks for cost of shipping and you can have at them to get the experience. I use a cnc mill and I understand all people don't have one. Your call but you have nothing to lose and I need to get rid of them, LOL.
