McMillan A5 or A4? Need Opinions

I am getting ready to order a stock from JW Precision, and I am curious which stock is preferred. I do shooting off of bags and bipods. It will be going on an FN platform with a 20" barrel. I am looking for everyones opinion and pros and cons.

I just bought an A5 for my Remington 40X from John about a month or so ago. I love it but could have gone either way. Sorry that doesn't help much except to say McMillan makes a Great Stock and the A4 and A5 are top-notch!

See if you can get behind them to see which you prefer!!

Having said that, I like a4 better but the front end is relatively chunky and not everybody likes the fact that it's bottom is flat on the foreend

Cant go wrong with either

Thanks guys, I personally like the looks of the A4 better. What are the approx width dimensions of the A4 and the A5 forearms? The fact that I can do any minute elevation changes from by butt hold hand, keeps me from having to slide the forearm on the bag for elevation change. I also like the fairly large palm swells, how is McMillan's palm area?

I,ve had both A4 for bench shooting and A5 for hunting feels better shooting off bench

I also have both stocks.The A4 has a better grip feel for me.The A5 has a really wide forarm great for use off a bag.If I had to choose one for my next build I would go with the A4. But thats me.

I think the A-5 is one of the most comfortable stocks made. I'd love to have one with the Edge fill.

If shooting off bags and bipod I'd get an A3-5 (slimmer flat tapered forend of the A3 with the A5 grip and butt).

You should also o yourself a favor and look at the Manners T4/T4A. Similar to McM A5, but the bottom of butt and bottom of forend are parallel and ride bags beautifully.

For me the grip on the A4 is the most comfortable.Like said above,if it's a hunting rifle then an A3-5 is the way to go!


But this is just my opinion! And YMMV?

Is there anyway you can try out either one before you buy?

BTW JW Precision is 100% GTG!

got both.....A4 all the way for me, the 5 is not bad at all but the 4 is the shit for me.......
