McMillan A6 or Cadex Field Competition or Mirage ULR for long range shooting?

Hi guys, I'm in the process of building a 7mm-300 win mag and want to shoot out to 1 mile or 2000 yards for target shooting only. I've been really thinking about stock vs chassis and these are some options I really like. My two most important considerations are controlling recoil and weight. I want an adjustable butt pad so that I can put it in line with the bore and a heavier weight ~5lbs. The Mirage ULR chassis definitely controls inline recoil but the aesthetics and price make this a last option.

I use a thumb on top of stock grip for my firing hand but does using a chassis affect the grip? Also I hear about aluminum chassis having a ringing noise when shooting?

For someone who has never used a chassis before, should I go modern aluminum chassis or traditional style stock?

Thanks!

You really have to get behind an AR type gripped chassis and a vertical grip stock before you jump in and spend 1200-1600.
You could split the difference and get a J Allen which is certainly is certainly. I know you said McMillan but Manners will send you stock to get your hands on to see if you like it. You could see if they have a PRS avavilae which is the closest to the McMillan A6

The J Allen stock is very expensive and out of my budget unfortunately. I looked at Manners but they don't have any adjustable butt pads and I don't think they offer any heavy stocks around 5 lbs. The vertical thumb grip is fine as I shoot a B&C stock on my .308.

Yeah unfortunately trying out a chassis is hard to do. I appreciate the help though Strike33!

im still fairly new to chassis so im no expert, but here are my early observations that i can share having slowly dipped my toe in from traditional stock land

i prefer a thumb forward on the side grip, as opposed to over the top. with some chassis you may have trouble with your grip, depending upon configuration.

the biggest thing for me to adjust to is that for the chassis i’ve been using (AIs), it has taken some getting used to having a slightly higher scope setup relative to the bore. having full-length integral rails pushes you up higher on account of the higher rings. on magnum calibers i noticed i feel the recoil more - which i believe is mostly attributable to that. i’m still accurate, i just have noticed that 20 rounds on my WM in my AI feels different on the neck from 20 rds on my WM in an A5.

if your not in an area where you can handle someone elses rifle, or visit a store offering them, maybe reach out to a vendor here and be up front with them about ordering one to handle it, and ensuring it can be returned unfired. you may be out some shipping, but thats better than having something you dont like that you then have to sell at a potential loss.
