Do McM stocks made with Edge technology sound hollow like a cheap molded stock when you hit them? I was thinking about going that route on a build project to save a little weight.

No.

I owned an A5 edge. It was one of my favorite stocks. Very light at about 2 lbs and it did not sound hollow.

Greg, This is an "Edge" used by GAP on this "Nontypical" .308.

No hollow knocks when I bang on it...

Are you building a lightweight big game rifle?

The stocks are not hollow and do not sound as such. There is a proprietary edge "fill" used which gives the stock the light weight.

Re: McMillan Edge Technology

Thanks for the feedback on your Edges. Yes I am attempting to build a "lighter" weight combination hunting/shooting rifle.

My other rifles have Manners T stocks and I like them quite well. My favorate being a 300wsm with a carbon wrapped barrel that weighs in at ~10.5 lbs with bipod included. I am trying to shave a little weight if possible.

The other parts so far for this build are as follows:
1 - Stiller Predator SA: 2.5lbs
2 - Rock/ABS Carbon 22" barrel: 3lbs
3 - Leupold 4.5x14x40 LR: 1.5lbs

So I am up to 7lbs and I don't have a stock or bipod on yet.

McM say a HTG in Edge would weigh 1.6lbs. A light weight Manners T is right at 2lbs. I was leaning on going with the T because of "sameness" but was exploring my options.

How is the accuracy on that .308 "Nontypical"? George has pitched them to me before when I was looking for the boys.

Re: McMillan Edge Technology

Hide-member Banshee has an Edge McMillan A1-3. It has a Remington varmint contour barrel and it shoots like a hammer. Very nice stock and if I did not have already have a lightweight rifle, I would build one with that kind of stock.

If you are looking for light, I don't think you could go wrong. Only thing is that you cannot get molded in color(this is only a slight bummer).

Re: McMillan Edge Technology

Pretty good group! One could make a lot of hits with a gun that accurate. Sort of shows you don't not need an extra heavy barrel contour to shoot well.

On the Edge question, I have been shopping around a little to see if I can find a McM HTG that I can handle. Haven't had much luck so far but its been quite a while since I handled one of those stocks and I would prefer to test the fit and feel before I spend $700 and wait 4 months.

Greg, Another stock you may want to look at is the Mcmillan Remington Hunter as shown here. This is my medium weight .308, built around a Surgeon action...it goes a shade over 12 pounds with a full magazine and sling. This rifle really shoots..built by GAP.

Re: McMillan Edge Technology

Me too...yes plenty accurate I would say.

You got some nice looking rifles.

Been watching the Surgeon group buy to see what the prices are. Don't know why, its not like I need another rifle. What I am probably going to need is a place to hunt. My current landowner just passed away and the future does not bode well.
