waited 8 months for a mcmillan stock to come in for CZ550FS. Problem is that the pocket/recess for the lug doens't fit. going to have to dremel the stock to move the recess back towards the action about 3/8". Just want to make sure this isn't going to be an issue once i get it all bedded. Since this is going to roughly double the size of the recess should i do anything different when bedding it? Guns got decent recoil (9.3x62) so i want to make sure it's solid when it's all said and done.

thanks.

P.S. I did read Mr Roscoe's extrememly helpful thread.

Re: mcmillan stock/bedding question

I would have to say send it to a pro in this case. I had always bedded my own. But the last McM I got I sent to a pro and was pleased of the outcome. Roscoe is sorta close to you. Price is on par and his work looks great.

Re: mcmillan stock/bedding question

My first recommendation would be to send it to a 'smith who does inletting. However, if you are handy and feel comfortable with using a dremel,it probably wouldn't take much to remove a bit to get it to fit. Then bed around the lug with epoxy so the action can't move under recoil. Most shops are running about 4-6 weeks so you'd save considerable time doing it yourself.

Re: mcmillan stock/bedding question

Send it back to them. They will fix it.

They screwed up my stock on the first go, but they sent me a return label to send back not only the stock, but the rifle as well.

When I got it back, the stock fit perfectly and I've been very happy since.

Don't risk screwing up such an expensive rifle stock. Send your rifle to McMillan and you'll be amazed at what returns.

Boomer,

That won’t matter, it's just clearance. After you open the lug recess to fit follow my directions and make sure your dry fit is 100% like it should be and you'll be GTG. Sometimes I open the lug recess a little big to make sure I have solid bedding in that area and there’s no stress induced during the fit.
