Looking to build a Rem 700 SA in 223 with either the Mcrees or the XLR. Both have their good and bad points but those who have used either, which would you prefer and why? The Mcrees is a little less for the folder. Both take the AICS 223 mags, I believe. Why a 233, because my range is only 500yds and it is a lot less expensive to shoot. Is the metal chassis a problem in hot and cold weather? Thanks for the input.

If you decide on a Mcree's ive seen a few certificates floating around on the exchange so that could save you a hundred or so as well.

To answer your question about how the metal chassis reacts to weather it is a good idea to run a stock pad because at least out here in AZ my Mcree can get pretty hot.

I have an XLR with a Remy 700 223 in it. The ergo's of the stock are fantastic and I'm a big fan. However, there is one thing that bug me just a bit and that's the barrel shroud. The shroud is cool looking and allows you to not burn your hand on a hot barrel, but it also adds around the barrel which doesn't allow for the tightest possible hight over bore. It's not a huge problem, but it's at lease a 1/4 inch higher right off the bat - kinda annoying.
That being said, I would wait for the KRG stock (Kinetic Research Group). It will have a folder, it's ergonomically comfortable, and it looks sexy. Justin at KRG should have them ready in August.

I like the Mcrees a lot. It's got great options for set up, fits me like a glove, and is built like a tank. Plus, Scott is a GTG guy and will take great care of you.

I struggled with this myself last week and finally went with the Mcrees.
One reason, was what was mentioned above about needing to clear the forearm with your scope.
Also the Mcrees is a truly "modular" stock in what you can put on and take off.
I heard also that they fixed that ugly gap between the trigger guard and grip and now it's solid.
Finally for a folder it's cheaper than the XLR, and while I think the XLR looks nicer, I don't have the kind of scratch it seems a lot of guys on this forum have, so I went with a Mcrees.

XLR gets my vote. Its defiantly lighter. The height over barrel isnt that big a deal. I still use medium rings on a 44MM objective scope. And while the folder is cool and all I have found I really dont use it much except to show off.

Yes. That was the first thing I did. I put an Ergo grip on there and it works great.

I think both function wise, are great and shooter customization is top notch. I have a McRee, i've dealt with Scott and he's a top notch guy. One thing that I think sold me was the way the forehand grip mounts. I originally wanted a JP stock but later found out it wouldn't fit my barrel upgrade. I originally had a bull barrel but would change to a Obermeyer done by RWS with a 1.27" diameter. If I had gone with XLR I would've had problems something I didn't have with the McRee.
