Members in South Africa

Re: Members in South Africa

I just moved to US from SA. Miss home a lot, but US is cool place too. Nice to know I can have means to defend my home and know the law is slightly more on my side if I had to defend it. At home you better kill the intruder so there is only one story . Sommer put a knife in you arm too, so you have a slight chance.

(The baboons are some of our most civilized citizens, so lets not pick on them)

Re: Members in South Africa

I've been to Durban and Cape Town myself. Both beautiful - Cape Town a bit more-so than Durban, but it was a nice break from the rest of Africa. Glad to have you here.

Re: Members in South Africa

Hi Raven,
I reside in Pretoria and also believe that baboons are better citizens then our ANC led govt.
I am rather active in SAhunting field shooting etc and hunt as much as I can afford too.
I met another South African on this site about 2 months ago who is active on the F-class shooting. Maybe he will pitch in at some point.
Cheers

Re: Members in South Africa

Thx guys,
Glad to meet you guys. I live in JHB-area but spend most of my time in Pretoria. My brother moved to Oregon in ’99 and he loves the States. I would love to go visit him. One of my friends who live in Denver invited me to go hunt with him when I’m in the States.
I do a lot of shooting in the Freestate & Piet Retief area. I plan to start IDPA next year but currently most of my shooting is middle range vermin hunting.
I’m actually leaving for the farm tonight, taking my .22, .243, .30-06 & 9mm. I hope to dispatch some vermin & maybe this time I might actually get my Bushpig!!!! I’ve been hunting ‘em basterds for years & I’m yet to get my first kill...
SA-guys, do you guys know of a range in Transvaal area where one can get a bit of long-range exercise?
I’m looking at setting up a private range on the farm from about 100m to 800m. I’ll go scout it tomorrow. I just want to suspend steel plates from a frame using chain. But I’ll work out details on the fly.
Fellow marksmen, I’m looking forward to getting to know you all.
Regards

If not, please post here & let's try getting something happening on this side of the Atlantic. Maybe have something that we can contribute to the other members planning to come visit here etc.

Hey guys, if you look here http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=22&page=1 you may find a few more members from SA. I was fortunate enough to hunt there in April this year. What a beautiful country!
Good luck.

Re: Members in South Africa

The only range I know that stretches to 600m is outside Brits. It is privately owned and the owner is very relaxed. No benches etc, just the markers at 100m intervals. Must have been an ex SADF range as it has a proper bunker with pull down targets.

For steel plates you need to go Rockwell 500 or harder and conveyer belting. Chains get shot to bits in no time. Belts are bolted on with high tensile bolts. Make steel plates with extension for belts to be bolted to.

Be sure to have a few of 200mm diameter as this is the standard in field shooting.

Cannot help with baboons!

I'll go look on my Freestate-farm in Dec. I've got a spot in mind. It's just a bit of a drive to Bloem.
