I am an idiot. I smoked a brisket on Friday evening and it was perfection. I did not take a picture of it.

I have long said that my smoked brisket will tempt the faith of a vegan. That statement once pissed of a vegan. Mainly because he did not think being vegan was a faith.

So, I said, okay, setting aside the statement that God gave man dominion over the animals and has never once condemned man for eating animals, let's just look at the supposedly God-less viewpoint.

There is nothing in evolution that predisposes any creature against eating any other creature. In fact, most people who have food allergies, are allergic to specific proteins. I was allergic to yeast as a kid. I worked with a friend who was allergic to corn and corn products.

Actual allergy to a meat would be to a specific protein. Every vegan I have known, and my wife's daughter (whom she gave up for adoption, long story for another day) is a vegan.

A vegan doesn't eat animals because they think it is morally wrong. The animal suffers. As if the animal has a soul. How could the animal suffer or be victimized if it didn't have a soul?

Ergo, they have a faith that it does.

That ended the discussion. I know, most unfair of me to use logic and reasoning.

The only true source of morality is God and his written word so that's where I go in discussions with those that claim anything based on morality.

Genesis 1:29-30 shows that God gave seeds and fruit and green things for both man and animals to eat. This is often quoted by vegans.

However, Genesis 9 tells us what God told man after the great flood. "Into your hand I give every living thing that moves as food."

Or, since you want logic and reasoning against someone who is likely atheist, you just point out the simple things. Like we can digest and use only some plants, but all animals. We have teeth designed for meat and plants both.
And that big kicker, our bodies are very good at processing and using animal protein and fat. Very poor at using plant based protein. You can do the carnivore diet and get ripped, vegan diets make you sickly.

There are many here that bring their faith into a lot of arguments. They forget that it means little to nothing to those that don't have any or are of a different faith. Christians can't even get along, and they've come up with a whole bunch of their own individual churches because of it. What makes you think anyone else cares about it?

Watergate salad on a Hawaiian roll… slap me.

Salads are so much a regional thing. I've never even heard of that.

But having family and a wife from the Midwest we have things like funeral potatoes (only ever seen at pot-luck functions), salads that are anything not involving salad, and casseroles or hot dishes with 52 different names depending on which county you live in.

An LVN once pointed out to me that what helps man be the dominant species, in addition to large brains and opposable thumbs is the ability to eat meat Look at animals that only eat plants and they spend a big chunk of the day eating to survive. A human can get the daily nutrients needed in a meal of meat, leaving time left over to become the apex species.
