I'll be there next month. Two things I want to challenge is A. Florida-Cuban-Mexican food vs Texas-Mexican food, and B. Does Texas have the best BBQ. Where should I go? Bonus if the restaurant you mentioned is not on any Google top ten list.

Honestly, I have never found good BBQ in San Antonio. The original Rudy's is there, but its not all that good compared to others in surrounding cities. Its worth driving to Austin and go to Franklins but prepare for a 2+ hour wait normally, Seguin for Burnt Bean Company or Lockhart for any of the big names there....Blacks, Kreutz's, Smitty's etc. None are very far from SA. Good Mexican food is easy to find everywhere.
Rudy's is terrible.
Rudy's is terrible.
Two Brother's BBQ is regarded very welll
Augies BBQ is another one that was good, but i havent eaten it in a while.
as far as mexican food, how local/rundown do you want it to be?
Rosario's is the better big tourist type mexican food places, downtown, etc.
if you want like hole in wall, you're the only white person in there, dont check any health inspection scores, then let me know and i can point you in the right direction.
And you'll catch HIV if the river water touches you.Just stay away from any joint on the River Walk, they're mostly all over priced tourist traps.
Harmons is the one in cibolo. I remember when they used to be a food truck like 20 years ago or so. It’s pretty good to me.Thought we just did this one a few months ago?
Regardless, more/better eatin’ outside San Antonio, but a side trip to Luling will get you some of the best bbq in the world.
There’s also a bbq joint in Cibolo down by the RR tracks that’s just OK, but their smoked chicken is about the best I’ve ever had…can’t recall the name though.
Local mom and pop mexican restaurants > any chain
Truly great dining at Bliss, Bohannon’s, and The Palm downtown, but it’s not bbq or mexican.
Several awesome options in New Braunfels.. Try La Cosecha for Mexican. Wagyu fajitas or their carnitas is unreal
And a few doors down at The Alpine Haus is the best German food I’ve had outside Germany…better than a lot of my dining experiences there too!Drive to Naegelin's for breakfast one morning.
It's in New Braunfels, and absolutely worth the trip. We are no carb folks, until we get to Naegelin's. Bratwurst kolaches, cherry struedel, maple bacon doughnuts, and pecan bars. For Pete's sake, their breakfast sandwich is a glazed doughnut, split, with eggs, sausage, and cheese. Have mercy!
Thank me later.
Then go to Dury's Guns on your way back. If you run into Johnny, tell him his Georgia buddy said hello.. Great gun store.
Dang it, man. You just mentioned all of my favorite places in NB. All are very, very good. And a few doors down at The Alpine Haus is the best German food I’ve had outside Germany…better than a lot of my dining experiences there too!
And around the corner is Muck n’ Fuss… awesome burgers!
And off the roundabout/town square the opposite way is Krauses, Huisache Grill, and Codys ($pendy but great food). Plus Myron’s Prime Steakhouse (better than Ruth’s Chris), and a great seafood restaurant too: McAdoos.
Then since you've come that far, hit Gruene… We always go to Mozie's, but there’s a ton of great food to be had there too.
