Gunsmithing micro slick

Re: micro slick

Action or barrel?
There are low friction coatings which will last some time in an action. Not forever but some time.
There are no easy to apply ones which will last in a barrel.
If they were pushing to have you coat the barrel then you should let us know which monkey is pushing it.

I wouldn't bother getting it on the action either. Just shoot it till it's smooth.

Re: micro slick

I have seen pistol barrels coated incorrectly with PVD. Since it is a line of sight coating once it gets into the bore it can cause friction and over pressure in the cases.

The reason I mention this is that coatings are very difficult to get into the bore evenly and at the correct parameters. I am sure some bright people will figure it out but intill then I am leaving them alone.

I have no knowledge of the mirco slick so do some research.

UBC...good stuff.

Have it in two 6mm bores, a .30 bore, and three 50 cal muzzleloaders, so far.

The CF's do not foul like they used to, and are stupid easy to clean, if/when they need it.

The ML's, which all three are used with real FFg, require a lot less swabbing between shots, and the final cleaning is a snap.

UBC has done everything for me that I expected it to do, in spades......

+1 on UBC. It might not be needed on a custom tube but I run it in all of my OEM tubes. Im at 500 rounds without a cleaning on a Tikka T3 running 110TTSX at almost 3400fps and still have no copper visible and accuracy is well under 3/4moa. I cleaned a Tikka .223 at about 1400 rounds because I felt guilty and it cleaned up with a couple patches of Eliminator and showed minimal copper fouling.
