I'm just starting to get into this whole world of rifles and accessories and my OCD (according to my wife) is presently fixed on riflescopes. I found some (what I thought were) good deals on several quality mid-priced scopes and over the next day or two will have a chance to compare them during all periods of the day.

I don't know if anybody will be interested (or care for that matter) but I thought I would post my opinions as I can.

The scopes I have are a Bushnell 4200 Elite 3-12x44 FFP IR Mildot, a Leupold VX-3 4.5x50 IR Fine Duplex, and an Accupoint TR20 with green Triangle Post. All are brand new. My reasons for these particular models were:

The Bushnell has the high dollar features with the FFP and IR.

The VX-3 is SUPPOSED to have the best glass Leupold has ever made (its said to be better than the Mark4 which uses the old VX-lll glass)

The Accupoint - well, who wouldn't want to never to have to buy batteries if all else fails in the world, and that post reticle sure opens up the viewing field.

First impressions - the Bushnell and Accupoint come in really nice packaging with foam inserts cut-out that really do protect the scope for shipping / moving or storage - maybe not too important , but it does seem to say "we care about our product". The Leupold came in a really pretty gold box and was set loose on top of two little pieces of hard foam fore and aft that let the scope bounce around inside the box. Kind off half-assed for the most expensive scope of the bunch.

All (3) scopes show pride in manufacture. Fit and finish is top quality on all. The power selector bands on all are firm and smooth. The Accupoint's focus dial seems exceptionally hard to turn - I'm not sure if it's a defect or not. I'll mess with it some more and revisit that when I know for sure.

First look out of the box and surprisingly the Accupoint SEEMS to have the sharpest picture. It could just be due to the shortest eye-relief as the Leupold (with the longest eye-relief) is harder to get in-picture. Or it may be that wide open view due to the post reticle. The disclaimer here is that this first look is being done hand-held and that is PROBABLY an insufficient method to even start to do a comparison. And its just a quick look before I get any of them mounted.

To be continued...... (the battery on my laptop is about to expire - too bad it doesn't have Fibre-Optics)
