I tried to post this earlier but something must have happened so take 2. Last summer I purchased a factory built Midwest Industries ar10 in 308 with a Criterion 20" barrel. Specs are still up on their website. I'm looking to try shooting out to 500 yards with the gun. I'm a decent shot and can keep my little savage 17 hmr 93 something with a target barrel (nothing special cabelas special) moa at the indoor range I shoot at.

What can I expect accuracy wise out of the MI? I'm using Federal Premium sierra matchking hpbt match 175's. I'm getting 1-1.5" groups but maybe 150 rounds through the rifle/barrel so far. Ironically it doesn't like surplus at all an my pa10 outshot it with Malaysian... The 168's are easier to come by so I may switch over to those.

Thoughts on the rifle? I don't see many reviews/interest in the MI 556 and 308's since they came out a couple years ago and I assume its because the market is soft. Trigger is ok, may upgrade but any other recommendations are appreciated.

Ive seen factory 1,000 dollar ar10 in .308 shoot 1/2 moa with a mediocre shooter with fgmm 175’s. This was in my opinion a shitty trigger and stock. Was a dpms lightweight 18” something or other my buddy bought. I was impressed.

Now not saying the gun you’re asking about is even in the same category, but i feel a proper made gasser with high quality ammo should produce 3/4” at 100 yards with a capable shooter.

I have one with the 18” barrel. I only used factory ammo to get it on paper and I used Hornady Whitetail And was at 1.5” or a little under. My reloads using a load I just guessed at (43gr Varget and a 168 NBT) is 1” or less. IMR 4064 at 42.5gr and a 168 AMAX is a tight cluster where everything is touching for 5 shots.

I have MBT for a trigger and really like it. Switch triggers and if you’re not consistently 1” or less for 5 shots I’d be surprised. The guy that builds these was at my house this week. He’s on vacation so you won’t get much for troubleshooting if you call this week. He told me when I started shooting mine that 1” or less is what can be expected with FGMM. He won’t bullshit me. He tells me what’s good and isn’t in their product line.

Thank you for the replies. When the weather cools I start shooting her more frequently and see what she can do. I'm saving my brass and will reload someday but in the mean time, factory ammo is expensive so I won't be doing much experimenting with different brands etc.

What other match ammo have you tried ?

And try cleaning the heck out of the broke in barrel.... it might need a good cleaning.

And what are you shooting off of ?.... bipod ? bag ? two wooden sticks... Lol ?

FWIW, DAG " Sanitized " surplus from SGAmmo.com has shot great out of all my 308 AR's.... BUT buy a box or 2 , prior to a bulk purcahse... that milled casehead, might not play nice with a non-retarded cyclic system.
