Hey all, been lurking for a while and have learned a bit. I've always been handicapped to 100 yard public ranges but have wanted to get into longer range shooting, as in 500 yards or so. I'm planning on going back to grad school next year so my easy come easy go financial habits are completely cut off. That being said, last summer I picked up a factory built Midwest Industries 20" AR10 w/ Criterion barrel. Its on their website but seems interest in their factory guns has completely dissipated as I find very few reviews or videos. I'm assuming its just because of the softness in the market and the rifle seems to be of high quality.
Came fully setup with an Athlon Argos 6-24 ffp, not the best scope in the world but its clear enough. I love to spend money and have more expensive scopes on a couple of my rifles but am not going to upgrade at this time. ?'s.... What kind of accuracy can I expect from this setup and barrel? I'm getting 1.3" groups at a hundred, maybe a little better and the gun only has around 150 rounds through her. 3 shots are usually touching and I'm getting 1 or 2 that leave the pack. My normal target gun is a simple savage 93, wood stock target barrel in 17 hmr. Bought it at Cabelas and its nothing fancy but easily shoots moa.
I'm using Federal premium sierra hbpt match 175"s. 175's are hard to come by and the 168's can be had at sgammo for 180$/200. Are the 175's my best choice, try something else? I can't reload at the moment even though I have a setup sitting in storage. Trying to keep it at $1 round or less. Thanks in advance for any advice.
