On a varible power scope (lets just say a vortrx viper pst 6-24x50 sfp) if I shoot at (x) yards. (example 200yrds) on (x) power (lets say 8x power) and a observer on a spotting scope with mil dots observes the shot. Will his mil dot correction call out match mine?

Re: Mil dot in relation to varible magnigication match

On a SFP scope the mils only work on 1 power, if you have a spotter with a Mil Reticle his mils are most likely correct, yours will not be.. You have to also "map" the SFP scope, just because the manufacturer says it works on 10X it might not be exactly on 10X or with a 6-24X it would be Max power, but you have to test it.

On a FFP scopes the mils are correct on all powers, so you will match whoever is calling for you.

Even two SFP may not see the mils the same way on the same power, as power rings are not Calibrated.

Re: Mil dot in relation to varible magnigication match

the PST 1mil in scope = 1mil down range @ 24x
at 12x 1mil in scope = 2mil down range
at 6x 1mil in scope = 4mil down range

look on the dial, it will say x1, x2, x4

on FFP 1=1 at any mag, but the cross hais will look smaller at low mag.. like this

22x
