Its going to be put on a rifle for hogs, deer and yotes. Not going to be shooting past 600yrds, anyone use one for hunting?

I don't hunt anymore but getting a mildot was the best thing I ever did as far as shooting goes. I use it to determine distance then use it for holdover and it works great.

I use holdover and a l00 yard Zero and if I go where I will have more than a 200 yard shot my plan is to Zero at max point blank range for a 4 inch zone and use hold overs out further.

any scope that will help you make the most accurate shot is better than one that won't.
I use mil based scopes on all my rifles, because why dial when you can hold over with an exact point of aim and get the exact point of impact you want.

i use them for everything for the above reasons mentioned. get one. just don't ask which one, or you'll generally open a can of worms. go to the optics section, use the google search also at the bottom of my signature, then narrow your preferences to 2 or 3, look into them more then buy one.
if you are new to using them, i suggest putting one on a .22, then fool around alittle with it so you'll realize the mildot's full potential without using up expensive ammo during trial and error.

I apply it at 18 where it's 66% smaller @ 2.4 IPHY and dots are basically 1/2" instead of 3/4ths. Ive made a few 1st shot connections with this rig using the reticle for windage and turret for elevation to ~500 yds. in some wind using the lowly 25 Horn HP--

I use a Leupold mildot with the TMR reticle and like it a lot. The hash marks are much slimmer than than the original mildot, and there are 1/2 mil hash marks which effectively make it easy to divide these in half and you now have essentially a MOA scope. I also like the small circle at the center. When using the center, this makes it a great for aiming without covering the target.

Mildot is all I use. Get yourself a mildot, then pay close attention to Lindy when he makes a post about mildots and you shall learn fast.

I'm seeing 1.8 mils. Assuming 15" back to brisket for a mature male, then that's ~230 yds.

That antelope buck was exactly 266 meters or 291 yards according to my VectorIV.
That reticle is a genII in a S&B 4-16PMII.

17" measurement and 1.62 mils=291 yds. Or 18" and 1.71 mils, or 16" and 1.525 mils. They all = 291 yards. Or 19" and 1.81 mils too.

What, exactly, are you using as your measurement? Leg? Body? Head?
I understand the concept, but without reference it's hard to gauge and try the math for myself.

I think the problem is that the spot on the animal that we're attempting to mil is not the normal back to brisket measurement. It looks like a big buck so 16" b-b may be a better estimate of his size. But from what we're seeing my guess of 1.8 mils and 291 yds. would put the spot we're seeing at 18.8". I'd bet there's not an antelope buck that's ever been that big...b-b. I'm running better than 90% on reticle-rangefinding antelope, much better than this photo shows. Has to be a tgt. size error we're experiencing here...of course this is also assuming the true subtension that we're also seeing is 3.6 IPHY.

I know the specs of that reticle and from the "3" mark to the "4.5" mark is 3.6 IPHY just like the MD. If u can visualize moving the 3 mark down to rest on the does back then it would occupy ~0.9 of the 3-4.5 mark. Assuming 14" back to brisket i get this-- 14x100/3.6/.9=432, only 7 yards off the range this guy calls at 425.

know your rifle/cartridge trajectory and dial accordingly.
i always still hunted and always had time to 'point of aim, point of impact.
if an animal ranges at 300 yards, then dial in your 300 yard zero and hold center crosshair.
