What specific .308 ammo does the U.S. Army issue to their snipers, and the same for the U.S.M.C. regarding what they issue to their Scout Snipers? I just watched two great shows on the Discovery Channel about their respective sniper training schools, and the candidates were hitting quite consistently at 1000 yards. The Marines were using suppressors on all of their .308 rifles, so I was wondering what loads they were shooting and training with. I know that the .308 168 grain Federal Match BTHP that we are issued won't consistently work at 1000 yards so I'm guessing that they are shooting something with a 175 grain bullet?
The two shows were: Surviving the Cut - Army Sniper, and Surviving the Cut - Marine Sniper. Each were about 45 minutes long and were a great watch... very educational. I've been through several LEO sniper schools but it was interesting to watch the stalking exercises that both the Army and Marines had to go through - very similar but at the same time different.
I figure that there are members on this forum who have been through these schools and can provide some feedback and perspective. Thanks in advance for your help.
