Just like any other service, you will eat more than your share of bullshit when what you really want is to get in the action and adventure. you will have your share of shit details and have to put up with being jerked around by certified morons plus deal with the fact that you are without a doubt the lowest magget on the totem pole. But if you're to good for being a Army Soldier instead of a Marine, then enjoy your "been nowhere, never did anything" life.
</div></div>

Very well stated...been nowhere, never did anything... ROFLMMFAO! That is funny!

Being a Marine was the best part of my life in service, but being a SOldier I got to see other stuff that I would have never seen, plus I went cool places with lots of sand and brought back some really good, and some really bad stories. SUch is life, but when it's all said and done I can look back and say,"Fuck Yeah, I went there, did that, and am sitting here drinking YOUR beer telling YOU about it!"

Get out there, join up, make your own stories and come back to tell them with a jaunty walk and a smile with eyes that have been there and done it. Oh, and if you think you ain't a pussy for not joining the Army because the Marines won't have you, well son as the little robots told the kid in the movie,"You's a PUSSY!" so either get your ass into the recruiter or live your lot in life being a pussy that never did shit but wish </div></div>

so your saying if i dont join im a pussy who has done nothing in life? </div></div>

Dude, you took us there. SO yes,I am. You have the oppurtunity to sign up and 'Go Army' because you want to serve and no other branch will allow you. You have teh word of two or more who have or are serving in teh US Army that it's a rewarding and sometimes fucked up place but still good. YOU made the decision to be a pussy and start a one man whine fest here so now you have a choice. SUck it up and stop <span style="color: #FF0000">cryin like a bitch</span> and sign a contract or go away and be a civilian who will never have the ability to say,"I been there and done that". Forget about the military as a career. What is the excitement is that?

It sounds like you are well qualified to operate rides for a traveling carnival. You get to travel around and see new and exciting places without any of that military B.S. Tats, bad credit and running from the law are encouraged. You sir, are on the fast track to success.

Embrace that which you are destined to be.

Recruiters will lie to get you to sign. They probably will not lie about why they won't take you, if you ask. It might be something that could be fixed, like paying off your debts.

CKA - My choices were worse than the Marines or jail. They were the Marines or the Army.

I did get a draft notice while I was in boot camp. The senior D.I. thought it was highly amusing. He said they would take care of it, not that I cared.

Lindy,

It is not often that anyone gets a chance to point out misinformation in one of your posts. However, we know very well why the recruiters turned this fine upstanding young man down (snicker snicker).

His incredibly intense external locus of control (your rules and the economy did this to me) and inability to tie his own poor decisions to the obvious consequences (why don't you like my tatts, they're badass) coupled with an inability to accept responsibility left them no real choice but release him to a certainly sunny future.

OH Jackdaddy, btw in the future maybe try only purchasing that which you have money for, then when the payments come due between day jobs you won't be surprised by the "bills you can't afford".

Re: military reject...

Problems with rules already? You haven't even started:

-Uniforms have pockets: Not for hands, ever (even if they are lined handwarming pockets included in the design)
-Raincoats have hoods: Not to be used, ever
-Beret: enough said
-POV inspection if you are flying home on leave
-No cell phones while driving, but tactical radios OK
-Trying to get a meal after combat patrol: Too sweaty/dirty: Get kicked out
-Issued boonie hat: Mandatory item in deployment packing list: Not to be worn, ever
-Issued hot weather combat shirt: Not to be worn outside of a mission. This includes walking to or from your vehicles. So if you want to wear it... change three times that day.
-you must wear a PT belt over your reflective PT uniform
-you are entrusted to fire live ammuntion at night in combat, but not trusted to make it back to your barracks alive without getting run over by a gator once you get back to base ---> PT belts again...
-Being 15 minutes early for squad formation, which is 15 minutes before platoon formation, which is 15 minutes before troop formation, which is 30 minutes before squadron formation, which is 1 hour before the start of something.
-Wear beret to motor pool gate, enter gate, change to softcap, walk to to vehicle, remove softcap, put on helmet, finish with vehicle, remove helmet, put on softcap, walk to gate, remove softcap, put on Beret.

and it goes on, and on, and on....

To be fair you really are whining like a bitch though. I know people who've gotten tattoos removed so they could serve, and they were trashed gutter punks with assloads of debt so your can of excuses isn't selling anything.

I've got no insight to offer on service, I never served, but if you want to get along here whining like a bitch and demanding things won't get you very far I can tell you that much. Also lose the whole world owes me something attitude the military isn't an institution you should expect to work around you you work around it. If you're not interested in working around it's rules you're barking up the wrong tree in life. Consider being an entrepreneur instead.

A "Big Chicken Dinner" or BCD is a "Bad Conduct Discharge." If your really a screw up it becomes a "DD" aka "Dishonorable Discharge."
But your normal run of the mill dickhead gets the BCD. I've know a few guys who were pretty squared away whilst deployed, but had the t-shirt "Instant Asshole, just add alcohol" who wound up get more than just mast over the head of it. The days of being a long haired, bearded, Marine hatin' Sailor are over. I think they even closed camp Del Mar.

Re: military reject...

jackdaddy, since you are so very smart, what exactly did you score on the ASVAB? If your GT was over 110 or somewhere around 117 you have a lot of oppurtunity you are not taking. If your GT was lower than 90, well, then maybe that carny job is a better choice because douchebag Soldiers that are also stupid are worthless in a deployment anyway. They take too much time away from actually doing important things, ie, mission related stuff.

Since we are on the subject of whining about rules maybe you can enlighten us to what exaclty you have tattooed on yourself. We all know that racial or naked lady stuff will get you a no in the USAF, USN, and definatley the Marines. Army will take all kinds of tats to include obvious gang related stuff. SO what exacltly got you disqualified?

Oh, also, unless you show me why I shouldn't call you a civilian pussy that doesn't rate I will continue to do it. Why? Because you'se a pussy!

Re: military reject...

Back when I was on active duty, a BCD was usually accompanied by six months imprisonment at hard labor, and six months forfeiture of all pay and allowances before the separation, so we referred to it as "six, six, and a kick."

Re: military reject...

Actually, we had a SGT get a BCD and 6 mos hard labor at Camp Humpheries. I was part of the prisoner escort on that.
It was a crazy experience for a brand new private.

Re: military reject...

Ok, I'll give you my take, you decide if you what to take heed or not. What separates winners from losers is hard work an attitude. Instead of focusing on the negative let's look at things more positively, what can you do? You can join the Army. Your not real keen on olive green. Ok, next, wrecking ball. Get rid of the tat's and clean up your credit. See about waviers, doubt it but you can try. I don't know what ASVAB scores are now. I don't know what my raw score was but score wise I qual'd for nukes. Didn't go, I was in the top 10 percentile but would not lie about growing up in socal in the sixties. Had to get a drug wavier to get in. I did go advanced electronics. Gave Uncle Sam six years of my life for the training, but I've parlaid that knowedge an the experience into a six figure income for the last twenty years. In the words of one of John Waynes characters Lifes hard, it's even harder if your stupid. Don't whine about what you can't do, look for ways to win. I know that Navy is an acronym for never again volunteer yourself. But I wouldn't trade my time in for anything. It gave me the can do mindset one needs to win. It's up to you, you want to be a winner or a whining loser?

Re: military reject...

Damn, you guys are rough. Just pay your debt and try to get in wherever you can. Don't worry so much about which branch of the military, but focus more on your MOS (job skill that you can pick).

Stay the he'll out of he interweb forums and get your ass ready to serve.

Re: military reject...

Sometimes it takes getting your chops busted. You think the guys that have replied to his post have never had Life kick them in the teeth? Come on, If you read my post I wasn't attacking him I was attacking his "ATTITUDE" big difference! I was born an raised on the wrong side of the tracks and don't mind remembering it. Life has a way of not letting you forget it. But what you do with the cards your dealt is up to you. YOU make your own destiny. If you want to be a Doctor, hanging out at the waffle house ain't gonna get you med school. Create a plan and execute it. Now had he posted, "Need Help with Jump Through the Hoops" the answers would have been different from everybody. That is "MINDSET" how are you looking at things in life. Nobody likes a whiner. I bet you a dollar to doughnuts the OP doesn't like a whiner! It seems to me as to how he came back at people, he actually may have what it takes to carry is thing out. A good swift "Kick in the Ass" might be all he needs to start thinking right about it. It all starts with "Attitude" the right mindset wins every time.
End of Rant.

Edited for fat fingers! LOL!

Re: military reject...

Time to stop lurking…

At the age of 15, I had reconstructive surgery on both ankles. This meant that I was 4F for all branches of Military Service, Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserves, and all branches of Law Enforcement.

This was the fate that I was given. So, I decided to do what I could in my own way.

I sell rifle barrels. It is not much, but it’s something. I provide those that do serve with better tools to get the job done.

I am not able to salute my Flag or when I say my Pledge of Allegiance or when my National Anthem is played. I am not able to Honor those that have served by saluting them. I have not earned that right. I am only able to place my hand over my heart to show my respect and offer and firm handshake and a thank you to those who have served.. Am I a weaker man for not having served? Perhaps.

It doesn’t matter what you drive, some are fortunate enough to drive the Big Three, some drive off-brands, others ride bikes, and some walk or even crawl.

It doesn’t matter how you get there, at the end of the day, the measure of a Man is that you showed up for the fight.
