I've always been of the opinion that the people who prefer the government to rule every facet of their lives are the weakest of society, mentally, physically and intellectually. This study does nothing to change my opinion. It's always people who feel others should pay their way thru life, who failed to plan for retirement or find a job with earning potential who demand that others feed and care for them.

Play the blame game later on to your heart's content about who is responsible for ones own mess & getting stuck in unconscionable contracts, BUT,

Talk with enough younger folks in their 20s and 30s and you'll soon understand that they would vote for the love child of Satan and Hitler who ran on a platform of sending all mankind to the fires of hell, if he promised them to get them out from under their student loan debt.

For many younger folks (and you can argue about "deserves" all you want later on), the crushing weight of the student loan insanity and the horrific contracts that go with them, is their primary concern and the rest they figure they will care about later....

So I'm thinking we get the conservatives to run on a platform of taxing the "evil bankers", "Technocrat Elite" and "abusive hollywood moguls" to pay the student loans off for everyone... I mean if it's a game of promising everything and delivering nothing, might as well do it right.

College has gotten expensive besides they can essentially charge whatever they want because they know students will just take out a larger loan. They would be leaving money on the table not charging stupid amounts of money because the fed gov will loan it out regardless.

If you want to lower the cost of college we need to get the federal gov out of the business of student loans. If you want a degree in feminist pottery studies you will be hard pressed to find a bank willing to loan you the money for it, because they know it won't ever be a profitable degree.

When I was in High School I had an open socialist history teacher. This was 90-94 where I had him for two years. To be fair, he was a good history teacher, but he sort of pushed Scandinavian "socialism". It was never direct. He mentioned he preferred it over our system because of the "fairness" and that the people in those countries were "happier and more prosperous". This is the earliest I remember any of my teachers attempting to push that agenda on students.

I was the only student to stand up to him in my classes with him. Thinking back it's pretty sad that nobody else challenged him. My family is a long line of military (all branches) and defense industry workers. My sister is currently serving in the Navy doing some secret tech stuff. So we have always been on the opposite side of the liberal doctrine.
