i plan on using h 4350 and the hornady amax. my hornady book does not list this powder in the 260 remington. what is a good starting charge weight. ill find my own max

I would start at 40-40.5 and work up until pressure signs.

it seams to me hodgens site lowballs everything so much its hard to get goot info. i guess lowball is better than highball.

I started at 41.0gr with H4350 in a gas gun. It was a middle of the road load, anywhere between 40 and 41 to start is a good point.

Hodgdon's site is a better representation than most reloading manuals as to what their powders will do. They list 42grns as the max with the 140s but can you go higher? Maybe. It's up to the reloader and his rifle to tell. I have been up to 43grns with the 140 AMAX in my 6.5 Creedmoor which has a similar internal capacity as the .260. Will is be safe in your rifle? Maybe. Only you can tell. The listed factory 140 AMAX 6.5 Creedmoor load is 41.5grns of H4350 and it's not a high pressure load.
Bottom line, if you want loads for Hodgdon/IMR/Win powders then go to the link above as it will give you a good place to start safely.
