i took the plunge and picked up a mini tactical with the standard stock was wondering if anyone else has this rifle and what ammo shoots the best, went to local gun shop and picked up some remington umc 55gr fmj, remington 50gr jhp, winchester 5.56 55gr fmj, american eagle 55gr fmj, and some federalxm193f 55gr fmjbt for it haven't shot it yet still trying to find a otis cleaning system, now before you start trashing the mini, i got it for 3 reasons 1.fun gun to plink with 2.to hunt coyotes up to 150yds 3.home defense, now i know the mini isnt a tack driver but i have read good reviews on the tactical getting anywhere from 1-3 moa at 100yds so if anyone has a tactical or exp with the ammo i mentioned would be great, and also does anyone use a recoil buffer with their mini looking at installing one but if i dont need it then i wont get one

I owned a Mini14, they are a hoot to shoot, but your money would be better spent towards something better. You will always be able to upgrade, but sadly you will soon probably realize you'll always want to.

Re: mini 14 tactical

i have a stag model 3 in my safe,so there is no need to upgrade like i said i got for the 3 reasons i typed my ar does everything but the home defense part, plus if a had some one that wanted to go coyote hunting and didnt have a rifle i would give them the mini so if you owned the new one what was wrong with it

Re: mini 14 tactical

what is wrong with the mini magz beside they are a little more expensive than a ar magazine my stag has a 20 inch heavy barrel so no go on the home defense to heavy to be swinging around corners with the 1-5 moa is that with the newer production minis and not blowing through a whole magazine in seconds with a hot barrel i got the mini knowing all the complaints about it just wanted something different fun to play with and to kill predators 4 legged and 2 legged (if they break in my house)and if owned all kinds of ak,sks, even a m1 carbine at one time still kicking myself for getting rid of that one

Re: mini 14 tactical

They are fun to shoot.
The guy I buy my reloading components from has a mini that he has turned into a sub-moa shooter.
Lots-o-stuff done to it.
If it weren't him that told me, I wouldn't have believed him.
I'm sure it probably suffers from POI shift when it feels like it where as AR's generally don't if built right.

At least Ruger is selling standard capacity magazines for it.
Have fun with your new rifle.

Now the M-1 carbine is a handy, accurate rifle that is loads of fun to shoot.
Very mild.
With the right bullet it should stop any man.

Re: mini 14 tactical

Bill Ruger thought that his American customers were such crappy shooters that the lack of accuracy thing would go unnoticed.
For the most part, he may have been right, but to actually say it.

He didn't think much of the plebeians that bought his crap.
