Im specifically looking for the minimum diameter for 3/4-24 threads, but maybe make this a good post to search for to find any minimum diameter to still have a good enough shoulder for suppressors. Couldnt really find anything out there.

Re: Minimum barrel diameter for thread

I would recommend .850 as an absolute minimum. When you venture down below .050 per side you are truly asking for it. Then again it depends on what you are mounting. With a muzzle brake you could get away with it.

Most of the suppressor companies won't really post that info because they don't won't to be responsible for it or they don't know.

I don't know about that, I now AAC has thread specs posted on their site:

Re: Minimum barrel diameter for thread

0.050 on the diameter is the minimum that I would suggest for a break and 0.100 on the diameter is the absolute min that I would suggest for a suppressor.

Jon, take a look at the reaction forces involved with resolving the moment induced by the cantilevered support of a 2lb object that's Cg is 8" from the shoulder reacting that moment.

Re: Minimum barrel diameter for thread

Im looking to rethread my Savage 338 barrel from 5/8-24 to 3/4-24. The muzzle right now is .900, so it would be very slightly larger than that by the time I cut the existing threads off.

It will get a YHM QD brake attached permanently to it...so does that fall into the suppressor or brake category haha?

Re: Minimum barrel diameter for thread

Got it re-threaded today, turned out quite nice, will report if it helped at all.
