All I can say is after a lengthy chat with Doug @ Cameraland, I am in the market for some Minox compact binos.
His claim is they are optically "as good", but brighter than the little Leica ultravids - at considerably less money.

I have a pair of 13x56 binos, and a spotter from Minox. Can't go wrong for the money, and outstanding customer service in my opionion.

I have their MD50 16-30x compact spotter, and I love it. Very clear, good resolution, minimal color change. It's the handiest spotter I own. The eye relief is a little short when wearing shooting glasses, but it's still usable.

Abuddy sent me a link to a sale Cameraland has posted right now and Some of their rifle scopes were on the cheap, so I was considering one for "getting by" until another option became viable for me.
