Rifle Scopes Minox or Steiner?

Lots of threads here on both, but the Minox hands down. Better glass and rect and solid mechanics. My M5xi steiner is one of my most trusted scopes but the Minox is a better scope. That being said the Steiner can be had for roughly $800 cheaper. that's a lot of scratch.

Both are great scopes, but the Minox is in a different class. If you can swing the extra coin, you won't regret the Minox, but you also don't need to feel like you compromised if you get the Steiner. It's an excellent scope too.
Thanks for the replies so far. The dilemma I have is I bought a Savage BA10 Stealth in 6.5 over Christmas and never bought a scope for it. My local Dick's Sporting Goods had a sale on the RPR and had one 6.5 CM in stock. I bought it first week of this month and haven't bought glass for it either. So now I have to buy two scopes and did not want to "settle" for something. I'd rather buy once, cry once but stupid me had to get another gun.

I've owned both and can agree with all the comments here. The Steiner is an excellent scope. It's dependable, reliable, etc., but the Minox is on a different level as far as glass and reticles are concerned. Of course, the Minox is several hundreds more than the Steiner. It will depend on what your priorities are and what it'll be used for. If you plan on shooting matches, I'd recommend the Minox with the MR4 reticle. Otherwise, the Steiner will do everythng you want.
If you decide to go the Steiner M5Xi route, EuroOptics have refurb 3-15 and 5-25 for about $2k. Might save you some coin.
Ilya knows his $hit. This review also agrees with my experience and that of just about anyone who has used a Minox ZP5.

What metric are you hoping for? Ultimately if someone tells you about their experiences with a scope it's their opinion. The review that scudzuki linked is one of the more in-depth user reviews of this scope around. Not really sure what you're wanting.

I know I've given you reasons why the Minox is better. You've gone to the Minox thread. What more do you want?? If the word of literally EVERY SINGLE person saying Minox is better won't cut it, what will? You're hearing from people who have owned both and have extensive time behind them and there isn't one person saying the Steiner is better, but to you that's all "subjective". Heck, you've gone into the Minox thread and said to take reviews with a grain of salt when you haven't even looked through one!
I'll tell you what, why don't you give us a few reasons why Steiner belongs in the same conversation as the Minox. Objective reasons, "with substance", of course.

How do I know you haven't looked through one? You went in to the Minox thread and told someone else to watch a video out the turrets and said "They look good" instead of giving personal experience, and here you are asking for "objective reasons" and "substance" as to why the Minox is better. If you had come on here and said, "I have the Steiner. I've spent X amount of time behind the Minox comparing the two and I prefer my Steiner," no one would have said anything. Instead, you're coming off as someone who's being difficult or stubborn for the sake of it. Like I said, you're telling guys who've spent considerable time behind both optics that their opinions are invalid, after asking us why one is better.

Must have been the wrong link. Still a great review with tons of great comparisons. Anyone who blows that off as mere subjective opinion either didn't read the thread or is full of crap. I suspect we all know which it is.

Ok, looks like a good review for the Minox. I'm not dismissing it as an optic. The comparison we are doing here is Minox vs Steiner, which I see no comparison about it the review.
Personally, if the price was the same, I'd be grabbing the Minox MR4 reticle. Just because I personally want to try that's reticle and it looks good. Does it mean it's better? No. Just personal preference...

Try not to be obstinate about this. There are no smoke and mirrors going on here. Maybe we will get lucky and someone who has both scopes can provide a semblance of a comparison review, but it's not a stretch to understand that the Minox is a better scope than the Steiner.

Im going to direct you to the Minox & Im partial to the MR4 ret... Here are some simple and concise observations after owning both...
1) The Steiner M5Xi was pretty outstanding when it was first released (2013-2014) ... But its design & reticles are showing their age
+1 FOR THE STEINER - The elevation turret second rev indicator is still my favorite design
2) Minox is a more modern design, with perceivably better optics & reticle choices
The eyeobox, size, weight, and overall feel is very similar on both... The Steiner turret feel is slightly more tactile, but the turret size can be an issue, they are huge... The Minox is more sleek and streamlined. I like the locking fast focus eyepiece for caps. The scope is phenomenal optically, the only thing I can find to complain about is color. The scope isn't as vibrant as some others with color, but thats splitting hairs. Id like locking turrets on the Minox, but i can live without...
Here is the bottom line - Minox reticle choices are worth the extra money, they are far more useful for your intended purpose (1000+ YRD's)... Buy the right tool for the job

I'll go ahead and state up front that we are all BIASED in our opinions toward our optics. We have a lot of effort investigating our optics and a ton of money wrapped up into our own Ford/Chevy/Dodge thing....
That said I have several of the Steiner M5Xi 5-25 with the MSR reticle and they are great- everything about them as far as I'm concerned. I am a huge fan of the Premier scopes and when the Steiners came out they reminded me a lot of the Premier scopes and now so do the Minox scopes (I believe both were designed by Optronika). I really love the MSR reticle and just in the last couple of weeks came across a situation where it wasn't optimal as it has a solid center and is fairly thick so on small targets it could completely cover the target.
I have handled the Minox and liked everything I saw as well, the turrets were very nice and tactile and overall the scope had a great feel to it. In handling the Minox I was inside and can't really give a decent opinion of how it looked optically - I wasn't blown away which it sounds like most of the Minox supporters are...
Feature for feature the scopes should be about the same so try to get your hands on one of each to compare. In the end it for me it usually comes down to only a few factors
-Reputation
-Cost
-Reticle
-Some feature that just WOWS me
-Glass
Pick your deciding factor and go with it, both will do you a good job as witnessed by the recommendations in this thread. Good luck and let us know how it ends up!

Nice! Good to see some guys chime in who had both. I'd agree with the reticle choices. Personally, I like the old school G2B Mil-Dot. If I had to grab a newer optic and looking for a change, the new Minox with the MR4 reticle would be on my short list.

The kahles is very very nice. I compared that directly to a Minox zp5 MR4 and ultimately took the MR4 over it. The kahles had some Chromatic Aberration but had more contrast. It made the colors pop more than the Minox. The big deciding factor was the low light performance tho. The Minox can be used longer during twilight. My guess is the contrast made the lenses darker. That combined with slight CA made the nod to Minox easy for me. Kahles is nice. Super nice. Minox is better.
Correct, that's Bill's eval. I remembered it as being one of Ilya Koshkin;s (opticsthoughts.com) because of the depth of the eval.
