I am interested in the opinions on the difficulty of acquiring the correct parts to build a Mk 12 Mod O upper today. Is it possible? What would be hard to get parts be? What would the cost be? What are the sources?

    Thanks

Page 1 of The Official MK12 thread on AR15 has the info you are looking for. If you have time the remain 800+ pages are worth it...

I warn you that the clone game is no longer cheap and very addictive. It really is pretty cool some of the stuff they do in that thread to get authentic parts

Word to the wise: buy a pre built upper unless you want to watch EBay and GunBroker auctions like a hawk, pester dozens of sites with 'do you still have this in stock? I'll pay extra!!!!!' and scour and join forums by the dozen just to pm a guy to ask 'is it still available?' Luckily, I got my parts for MOD1 #2 just before the 'somebody bought all the critical parts' tsunami that went through a few months back. I could have turned my FFRAS around for double what I paid for it, but then I wouldn't have a MOD1, it'd be just another 'my interpretation' rifle, of which there are many. If that's what you want then that's cool. Clone troopers don't settle for 'my interpretation'. Troop onward!!!

Thanks for the replies. I have a correct HCS build from about the first lot that was sold. It has the correct sling, sights etc. It is like new and I just need to decide if I should part out or sell as one unit. Open to suggestions.
    Thanks again.

If it's a Swan rail you might get a little extra for that, otherwise PRI still sells everything needed to duplicate the Mod0 upper. I have two, very high quality stuff.

Interesting. I wonder why all the fuss about building one "correctly"?

That is why I ask. I hear so much chat etc. Odd if all the parts can be sourced easily. It does have the interrupted slot Swain rail and the bolts on the bottom of the hand guard like the early ones did.

I guess the best analogy to use is that of restoring an old car. While reproduction or replacement parts can be high quality (sometimes better) and 100% identical, original/period correct parts will always hold a higher value.

The MK12 MOD 0 has always been my favorite due to the monolithic top rail, but I never gave two shit's about keeping it OG, so I updated mine with a Bartlein Barrel, SLR AGB, JP BCG, and AR Gold Trigger. So in other words I took something good and made it great.

Oh and I also Chambered it in 6mm Fat Rat.
