Last summer, after 4 or 5 years of playing with .22 uppers, I decided to build an accurate .22 AR. The 20" Kuehl MKI is nice, the DPMS M-4 was fun and accurate, as are the M1S and Spike's ST-22 LW 16" HB CAR.
I had seen the MK12 and determined I needed one. I liked Compass Lakes info better, though Accuracy Speaks was a consideration. I've been quite pleased with a Douglas barrel I got from Jim Clark for a 10/22, so I decided on a stainless Douglas .
In the 2 month wait for the barrel, I accumulated the other parts:
CMMG upper, from CTD
PRI Gen III handguard
ARMS #38SPR-PEQ-2-3 SWAN sleeve
ARMS #22 throw lever 30mm rings
ARMS mini rear BUIS
ARMS #32 throw lever mount and Harris 6-9 swivel bipod
eXplore Optics 3.5-10x42 side focus 30mm scope- basically a $300 knockoff of a $1400 MK4 Leupold tactical. For this applcation it's better than the Leupold because it focuses down to 10yd or less.
The lower is from my Clark Gator, has a JP trigger.
Sound management from SWR (Spectre)
The targets are 8x8" Dirty Birds shot @ 50yd, on a windy day at Haltom City RPC near downtown Fort Worth. We have overhead baffles and a good day for .22s is hard to come by.
I had not put the AccuWedge back in when I shot these. Some of the groups have had 2 shots in one hole and the other 3 in another hole, which I believe relates to upper/lower play, and/or changing conditions. Several are one ragged hole with a spoiler. The worst is.880" I haven't had a good day and opportunity to wring is out since before hunting season.
So far this has been a lot of fun, except I've run out of SK Match and don't have any money left for resupply (I had paid $250 for the case, if that tell you anything).
This has been my first experience with an M-261 bolt, and overall it's been good. I did blow up my Bob Sled with a OOB (slamfire, actually, my fault)
The barrel is a work of art, and I didn't find out until after I ordered that Frank White did the barrels for military MK12s., which is pretty cool. All in all, I'm pretty satisfied.
CLE Douglas barrels are (or were) $300 for 20" Service Rifle or Space Gun, there was a #50 hickey for the 18" tube. The bolt and connecting link were $240 or so, with 3 magazine inserts.
