I am looking to get a new optic to replace my burris XTR2 on my 224 Valkyrie.

I am looking at either the 3.6-18 MK5 or the 3-18x Gen 2. Weight isn’t a huge factor because it’s going on a Valkyrie.

The razor would cost me a couple hundred more over the Mk5. But is the gen 2 a couple hundred more better?

This is more a question of weight, reticles and reticle illumination.

Gen 2 3-18x is a better scope, but it is also almost twice heavier. It does come with a decent tree reticle if that's improtant.

Mark 5 can be had with either TMR reticle or Horus. TMR is a bit old tech, but serviceable. Horus... well opinions differ, but to me it is a mosquito net designer's wet dream.

Also, if you want reticle illumination, Mark 5 becomes more expensive than Razor Gen 2.

Pick your poison: if you want lightweight, go with the Mark 5. If weight is not critical, I'd go with the Razor.

Razor 2 is a great scope, but way heavier than Mark 5, 26oz vs 46.5oz !!!!!
Vortex glass seems as clear, until you compare it with Mark 5 at low light condition.
with Leupold 35 mm tube you’d get more adjustments for both elevation and windage.
in my opinion MK5 is a better scope.

In general Leupolds have been a bit underwhelming with their offerings. That gives me a sour view of them, but that said they do have a good warranty and fair customer service.

Vortex has only the downside of weight, otherwise it is a better all around scope. That paired with their warranty and service makes them tough to beat.

It seems the Vortex is generally considered to have better glass in all aspects other than low light conditions.

Ignoring weight, is the difference in low light enough too make the MK5HD a better option for hunting?
Or does the better glass and FOV on the Razor trump the MK5 99% of the time.
