I hear a lot about the m1a, and I really like the rugged look of them. But could I shoot moa out to 400 with the right load? I'm considering the national match model. Or would I be better fit to build a AR based 308?

Re: Moa at 400 yds?

You can get better accuracy with the AR 308 platform, and for less $$. The M1A is a fantastic battle rifle and in the NM or Supermatch form they can be MOA or better, where you start to run into issues with the M1A is when mounting optics. I owned a few Springfield Supermatch rifles, loved them but they were MOA one day and 1.5-2 MOA rifles the next, and I never could get a mount that I had total confidence in not coming loose.

M1s are great rifles if you want to shoot NRA High-Power outside of that the AR style .308s tend to be better shooters and far easier to customize to fit you and your needs.

Look at the Springfield Supermatch M1A. I used to have one with the Douglas barrel and it was great. Iron sights were all I needed for 200-300yd shots.
