I have this chart that shows MOA drop for a 175 SMK at 2550 fps, how do I convert the moa drop to clicks if my Zeiss scope has 1/4" clicks at 100 yards? or is there a table I can download that does it for me?

Re: MOA drop = how many 1/4" clicks?

Yes.

However, I recommend that you not think in clicks, but keep your dope in MOA. You're highly unlikely to actually count 146 clicks up from your zero. Dial the MOA.

Also, does your scope have 0.25 MOA clicks or 0.25 inch at 100 yard clicks? They aren't the same - and you set JBM up for 0.25 MOA, not 0.25 inches at 100 yards. The 0.25 inch at 100 yard figure would be 153.4.

If you don't know, take a look at Optically Checking Rifle Scopes.

Re: MOA drop = how many 1/4" clicks?

MOA is 4.7% bigger than inches "MOA".

Round up to 5% and you're close enough for the first 800 yards or so.

Fast math: 5% is half of 10%, so shift the decimal one place and then cut the result in half.

Looks like your first chart was inches all the way, but IF the first column were MOA, say a 62.2 MOA drop at 500 yards (I know it's really inches, half that for inches MOA) *would* be about equal to 62.2 inches MOA plus half of 6.22 more, or just add 3 to get 65.

Re: MOA drop = how many 1/4" clicks?

Zeiss website saids scope is .25 moa per click, I'm not the smartest knife in the drawer but I'm not the dumpest either, this is very confusing. If my chart calls for 100 moa drop does that mean I forget about counting individual clicks and count 100 large hash marks instead of 400 clicks or am I just making this difficult?

Re: MOA drop = how many 1/4" clicks?

In your original post, you said, "...my Zeiss scope has 1/4" clicks at 100 yards?".

Now you say they are .25 MOA per click.

Those are not the same thing.

One click which is 1/4" at 100 yards moves the point of impact .250 inch.

One click which is 1/4 MOA at 100 yards moves the point of impact .2618 inch.

I assume that the elevation turret on your scope is marked with numbers which indicate MOA. The Conquest, for example, is marked with even MOA numbers.

My point was, go by the numbers, instead of trying to count clicks. It's much faster, and less prone to error.

Re: MOA drop = how many 1/4" clicks?

Lindy,

I'm thinking the lad does not have target turrets on his ole Zeiss. To compound things from Zeiss own website:

Adjustment per Click (in/100 yds) 1/4

I could not find a Zeiss that has 1/4 MOA clicks, only 1/4" clicks on the Conquest line.

However, talk about confusing the user, the Victory and Divari Series says this:

Adjustment per Click (in/100 yds) 1/3 MOA†

The flag + gives this explanation at the bottom:

†1 click equals 1 centimeter at 100 meters. (Approximately 1/3 inch at 100 yards)

Confusion Squared = ?

Re: MOA drop = how many 1/4" clicks?

What scope manufacturers say or publish about the calibration their scopes is frequently wrong. There seems to be a basic disconnect between the people that design the scopes and those that interface with customers.

The lesson is to never trust any of it. Test your scope as in Lindy's link above and/or use the tall target method.

Re: MOA drop = how many 1/4" clicks?

1- what scope do you have? My Zeiss Conquest is 1/4 inch at 100 yards (which is Inch per Hundred Yards- IPHY).

2- don't think clicks. Think increments. If your turrets are marked 1, 2, 3, etc- use these. If you need to dial 3.25, dial it to 3, and then 1 more increment to get the .25. There should be 3 marks between each number, to get the .25, .5, and .75 increments.

I use this website for my IPHY calculations. Make 1 column show in/100y. If your scope is 1/4 MOA at 100 yards, then use MOA.

A simple example of the MOA vs IPHY is it takes 29.6 IPHY and 28.3 MOA to 1000 yards with this example load. This is with the same trjectory information with the same load info, but showing the difference between MOA and IPHY.

Re: MOA drop = how many 1/4" clicks?

Only .25" clicks, and not MOA or MIL.
Now It's getting harder.
Had the same problem with my Tasco last year.

100 is 100!
Good catch.
Where does hundred yard zero hit at the corner of the barn?
Did you hit or miss the chicken stealing yote?

Re: MOA drop = how many 1/4" clicks?

Did you double check before shooting?
One hundred yard zero may, and probably will change.
100 is not 100.
Being close, means a miss at longer range.
